We were reminded again that Rotary is an international organization when Francisco, our exchange student from the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil, and Esa Muuruvirta, Rotary Exchange guest from Raahe, Finland, both spoke at our club meeting.
We were reminded again that Rotary is an international organization when Francisco, our exchange student from the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil, and Esa Muuruvirta, Rotary Exchange guest from Raahe, Finland, both spoke at our club meeting. Esa, 65, is a retired vocational health care nurse who enjoys woodworking and sports. He previously visited Seneca Falls Rotarians Karen and Stephen Beals. Francisco, 16, is a junior at Waterloo High School and has enjoyed participating in many school activities. This will be his last visit to our club for several weeks because he will be joining the wrestling team, and will be at practice on Monday evenings. He is looking forward to seeing snow, something only 4% of Brazilians have seen, he said. Both men described their countries and life in Rotary there. As a special highlight, they saluted Rotarian Brian Lowrey on his 44th birthday, singing Happy Birthday in Finnish, Portuguese and English! Karen Beals of SF Rotary and Bill Sigrist of Waterloo Rotary exchange club banners with Esa Muuruvirta of Finland, Rotary Friendship Exchange Visitor.
