Rotary Camp ONSEYAWA

Camp Onseyawa is supported by funds raised by 21 Rotary Clubs covering a four county area in New York State. Clubs from Ontario, Seneca, Yates and Wayne counties conduct annual fund raising events so that these children can attend camp with no cost to their family. Camp Onseyawa gets its name from the first two letters of the name of each county. Legend also has it that by an incredible coincidence it is also an ancient Indian word that translates to "Land of Happiness".

"The mission of Rotary Camp Onseyawa is to provide a camping experience for 8-16 year old children with disabilities from the 4 county area, and to foster independence and acceptance of others through social, recreational and educational aspects of life." Naples Rotary helps supports this project in many ways.

Polio Plus – Eradication of Polio

The Naples NY Rotary Club gathers every year to bring the club and community together to understand the importance of Rotary's continued efforts. Rotary has been working to eradicate polio for more than 35 years. Our goal of ridding the world of this disease is closer than ever. As a founding partner of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, we've reduced polio cases by 99.9 percent since our first project to vaccinate children in the Philippines in 1979. Rotary members have contributed more than $2.1 billion and countless volunteer hours to protect nearly 3 billion children in 122 countries from this paralyzing disease. Rotary’s advocacy efforts have played a role in decisions by governments to contribute more than $10 billion to the effort. Today, polio remains endemic only in Afghanistan and Pakistan. But it’s crucial to continue working to keep other countries polio-free. If all eradication efforts stopped today, within 10 years, polio could paralyze as many as 200,000 children each year.

Building Minds in South Sudan
Naples NY Rotary Club donations support the construction of schools, benches for classrooms, solar lamps, roof-top solar panels, and laptop computers. School campuses still need libraries and basketball courts for social engagement and exercise.

Disaster Relief

With more than 1.4 million members worldwide, Rotary members are on the ground and ready to take action to help communities recover when disasters strike.

Rotary members and The Rotary Foundation play a unique role in disaster recovery and rebuilding efforts. Working closely with our partner ShelterBox and other organizations that specialize in disaster relief, Rotary members lead projects to support every phase of a community's recovery. Naples Rotary helps supports this project.

Nicaragua Water Project

A project to bring clean water to a small village in Nicaragua has grown into one of the largest aid programs by any Rotary club in the world. Naples NY Rotary (Rotary District 7120) helps supports this project.

That project, to finance the drilling of a water well, has ballooned into a massive effort bringing clean water to more than 200,000 in villages throughout Nicaragua.

Hands Across the Pacific

Hands Across the Pacific is committed to bringing hope to widows, orphans and struggling families in this third world country. They are severely under-resourced and often face persecution. Hands Across the Pacific is there to help establish, encourage and strengthen this developing country. Through our strong partnerships with local Cambodian leaders, we're able to make a big difference by getting help to where it's most needed.  Because H.A.P. is a small organization and run by an all volunteer staff, our administration overhead is extremely low. Naples Rotary helps supports this project.

Shelter Box
Since 2000, ShelterBox has provided shelter, warmth, and dignity following more than 300 disasters in over 100 countries. We respond urgently to earthquake, volcano, flood, hurricane, cyclone, tsunami, or conflict by delivering boxes of essential shelter, aid and other life-saving supplies. Each iconic green ShelterBox contains a disaster relief tent for an extended family, blankets, a water filtration system, emergency lighting, and other tools for survival.

What began as a local connection with one Cornish Rotary Club in the United Kingdom has led to an international movement that’s raised over $68 million for ShelterBox to date – enough for 140,000 ShelterBox family tents or 390,000 ShelterKits.
First adopted as a millennium project by the Rotary Club of Helston-Lizard in 2000, the support of Rotary members and clubs around the world saw ShelterBox become Rotary’s Project Partner in Disaster Relief in 2012. Since then, the partnership has helped transform ShelterBox into an internationally recognized disaster relief charity, supporting families with emergency shelter after disaster. The partnership extends far beyond financial support. Around 1,000 Rotary members are involved in ShelterBox as volunteers, staff or response team members. Naples Rotary helps supports this project.
