Riverina Ski Sports

Peter gave us a brief introduction to the business which he and wife, Sharon open in May 2010. The business by its name provides water and snow skiing equipment and other related items.

The business has 4 full time staff, but during the snow skiing season employs an extra 12 personnel which equates to some extra 3,000 hours of employment.

The hire department for snow equipment is very labour intensive for fitting out etc. As Peter explained the washing and drying of ski clothing is an issue with no dry cleaner in Wagga willing to take on such a mammoth job! The ever resourceful co-owner invested in some heavy duty washing machines and driers and no prizes for guessing which other co-owner got the the job!

The business also provides a number of excursions to the snow fields. This year around 600 people used this service to take in the delights of Mt Selwyn and Falls Creek.

 

 

 

Water sports is the second key component of the business. Peter emphasised the importance both recreationally and from his business of ensuring an assured water supply which keeps Lake Albert healthy and functioning for us all to enjoy.

Riverina Ski Sports supports four major events on Lake Albert:

-Wake Schools

- Pro Demo

-Summer series

- Nationals

These events bring hundreds of people to Wagga with the attached economic benefits of accommodation, food & drink and of course fuel!

 

Another part of the business is a fully equipped work shop for maintenance of boats. A qualified mechanic is employed and by the appearance and cost of some of the boats he works on them with gold plated tools!
