President’s Report 4th September 2018
 
Thanks to Geoff Breust for chairing the meeting last week.
 
Special part of our meeting today was the induction of David Post to our club. Welcome David.
 
The month of September is designated as Basic Education and Literacy month.
 
Members are asked to insert their names on the Gears & Beers roster as all hands on deck are required.
 
RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards programme) applications received for 2019. The programme will be a joint approach by D9700 and D9710. The programme will be conducted between 13th & 18th January 2019. Applications close on 30 November 2018. Details passed along to appropriate club committee.
 
Details for Honeywell Engineering summer science received and passed along to relevant club committee. The programme will take place from 2nd to 7th December 2018.
 
David Byfield and I have been invited to attend a meeting at Rotary Club of Wagga Wagga on the 13th September. The meeting will be chaired by Mayor Greg Conkey and the topic is “The future of Service Clubs in Wagga Wagga”.
 
The next “Darkness to Light” dinner will be held on the 3rd November at the National Clay Target complex Copland Street. Tickets are available from Civic theatre.
 
Zone 8 Australian & NZ conference takes place on14th to 16th September in Hobart.
 
Community Fun afternoon to be held on 23rd September in the victory memorial gardens organised by WWCC. Our club will be providing all our marquees for the function.     
 
The Forrest Centre is holding a movie fund raising night on Thursday 13th September commencing at 7pm in Forum 6. Funds raised will be donated to the TFC Hospice.
 
Drought relief update –NSW Government announced 20 new farm gate counsellors & frontline mental health workers. Centre of Rural & Remote Mental Health has a web site www.crrmh.com.au. Each rotary district will receive $250,000 for the purpose of distribution to drought affected people. Methodology of distribution of funds is to be determined.
Mental health is taking centre stage. NSW farmers Association local branch is organising information session titled “Overcoming Adversity and managing Mental Health”. Information session is to be held on 7th sept from 9am to 12 noon at Wagga Council meeting room. Keynote speakers are Sam Bailey, Kevin McCrum and Merilyn Limbrick.
Active farmers and Murrumbidgee Landcare are partnering and bringing a road show focusing on individual health of Farmers. Workshops will be held at Stockinbingal Bowling Club on 10th sept, Tarcuta RSL Club on 11th sept, Lockhart ex Servicemen’s Club on 12th sept, Hay Golf club on 13th Sept. Times are 6pm to 8.30pm.
 
The management and coordination of drought relief is a complex issue which requires strategies to be put into place recognising the need to respect the dignity of individuals and reduces duplication of tasks by volunteer and government organisations. The Federal Government has appointed a national drought relief coordinator Major General Stephen Day.
