President John opened the meeting with Rotary Grace, a toast the a toast to the queen and an acknowledgment of the people of Australia. It has to be said that clearly the choir members were absent and took any airs with them!
It being a Club Assembly there was no guest speaker to introduce.
The guests on the day were Gerry Gurlach's wife Angela and of course Franzi.
President John informed us that unfortunately Michael Merrilees had resigned during the week due to work committments. John had thanked him for his service and we hope that he can rejoin us when circumstances permit.
Sadly, Dick Smith's mother passed away during the week, little more than a year after Dick himself. The condolences of the club have been passed along.
Bob Willis alerted us to an article in the Daily Advertiser mentioning that the Sunday market had contributed heavily to funding community services on the South Wagga campus of CSU. How timely.....
Following on from the Board meeting Monday night and acting on recommendations from the Projects Committee, $550 is being donated to Circus Quirkus and upon ratification from the members $1,000 to the Snowy Hydro Care Helicopter. The latter motion was duly passed on the voices.
Paul Milde took a pre-Secretarial moment to alert us that the Bruce Spinks organized raffle was doing the rounds of the tables at the meeting. Proceeds are going to Vanuatu relief.
Sargeant Peter Clucas reminded all and sundry that "What happens on tour, stays on tour". Of course, rules are made to be broken, so he did, and he laid into anyone on his Tassie golfing trip not named Clucas. Memo to self - be careful who your golfing buddies are. Sage advice however on how to arrange a tour booking, courtesy of Mr. Hodge. On a non-tour note, Pete mentioned (and fined) a certain member who bitched and moaned to a CASA delegation about them taking their newsletter digital. Who would that have been? I didn't catch the name but I think Smithy did.
Travis Downie spoke to the meeting regarding an initiative to introduce Automated External Defribulators intot he community, and to advertise their existence and educate the community regarding the use of them. They are automated medical equipment.which, if placed at strategic places around the community, are available to provide vital first-response assistance to heart attack victims.
Travis gave a moving personal story of his use of CPR to revive his father-in-law, and how it was the proximity to an AED in a remote community caqmping ground that saved a life that day. There was a lot of sympathy and support to the cause expressed in the room. Travis hopes to get a program off the ground which will not just be instrumental in getting AED's installed in the community, but will be supported by an awareness program so that people know that AED's are present, know how to use them (at least to the extend required of the automated unit), and are aware that the fear of being sued for using one is a myth.
Travis is looking at ways to get his program moving and is hopeful that Wollundry may be able to help. There were many members expressing just such support.
Pete McKinnon reported that the RYLA event went really well and was fantastically received by the particpants. They not only had a great time but got a lot out of it, and it was a fantastic effort by the organisers and those who assisted.
Andy Irvine reported that the Farmers' Market committee has recommended that stallholders be offered a discount for forward bookings. The dicounts offered at Christmas locked in 50% of the stallholders so a similar (but quite as generous) offer will be brought in with a small discount for pre-paying for the next month, and a larger discount for paying for the next six months. The Market committee has recommended that the Food and Wine stallholders be approached to see if they want to come to the Market, and team members will be encouraged to man strategically located donation bins and talk to people as they go by. No need to shake them down for their loot; just engage people and draw their attention to the donation bins. The sign-boards from teh Sunday markets displaying where our money has been donated to will be brought over to the Farmers' Market to further advertise our good works.
John Gray advised us that if we were not members of the RSL/Commercial Club then could we please do so. Attending our meeting was okay as it is considered a function, but even farting apparently causes apoplexy for the local Licencing Sargeant. It would offend me in other ways but, seriously, to avoid complicating life for everyone, please join up. After explaining the process of applying to join, Mark Hillis asked for guidance on the process of joining. Thanks Mark.
John Gray won the raffle, or at least made such a commotion that no-one thought to check his ticket. He's normally so quiet - how could you doubt him? Richard Rossitter won second prize and was much more gentlemanly about it., .
In the ANZAC spirit we had two drawings for the Members' prize, which Angie drew. Unfortunately the Treaurer had absconded with the attendance sheet so we couldn't identify immediately the winner; eventually it was relaised he was not in atenndance so Angie proceeded to draw herself from the pan. Well done! Franzi drew the second peg and David Foster got that prize.
President John gave a short but moving account of the landings at ANZAC Cove on ANZAC Day, 1915. It is well-nigh impossible from this distance in time and space to really understand what those men went through, but we are grateful, and we remember them.

For those new members who are unfamiliar with the Wheel Meal Deal, it is simply a meal with fellow members and their partners. There are three rounds in a year. For one round you will host two other Wollundry couples. As a host you are asked to provide a meal…be it a dinner, lunch or brunch. It might even be a picnic or barbeque, anything goes. For the other two rounds, you are the guests. Each round lasts for approximately four months, so there is plenty of time to find a suitable date. The Wheel Meal Deal is a great way to get to know members better and for our partners to become more involved in the Rotary family.
