A very tired President Paul opened the meeting with Rotary Grace and welcomed our visitor Stuart Heriot
He also welcomed back more travellers especially Peter Crozier, who landed in Wagga just three hours before his shift at the Food and Wine.
Paul also highlighted the New Members Night to be held at Q Bar (Beer Deluxe) on the night of April 18.
David Byfield presented projects totalling $7500.
!st Wagga Kooringal Scouts were granted $500, Shine for Kids (children of incarcerated parents) also got $500, and the club approved $1500 for Days for Girls, $3000 to the Shelterbox appeal for New Guinea, and $2000 to Rotary Oceania Medical Aid to Children.

NATIONAL YOUTH BUSKING CHALLENGE
This is a great initiative by David Pyke designed to highlight our young talent and to bring added interest to the Riverina BMW Food and Wine Festival. It was very well supported and added a great deal of colour and involvement from the wider community.
The outside broadcast from 2AAA was very well received, as was the support of Dale Alison of Alison Music.
The winners of each section, judged by Judy Ferguson, were invited to perform to the Festival. 32 registered, and we are looking to make this even bigger next time.
Food and Wine. Laurie and Paul both thanked the club and all the people who helped for a great effort.
Laurie felt as if there were rolls of barbed wire somewhere on his anatomy, but he was also kissed in the same place by a fairy as it didn't rain at all on the important parts of the Festival!! Friends in highest places!Among a long list of thankyous Laurie singled out Des Damm who erected the fence. The club pays $3000 for this to Des who in turn donates it back to a charity. This year it is going to "Football for All" a charity that encourages children with disabilities to play soccer. The club hopes to have Des along for a cheque presentation shortly.
It was a top effort and the involvement of all the members was greatly appreciated. The lead musical act was from Darren Coggan. He had a great time and hopes to be back to help us out at any time he can.

John Gray, a sergeant of much experience, regaled David Foster for even daring to mention the cricket, John Smith for being too forward with some female customers at the beer tent, cutting out Peter Green who also gave the quote of the week "We should have grandkids first!!". Laurie Blowes was granted four weeks exemption from fines, not so generous when you consider he and Del are on holidays and Wal Paton broke the barbecue, explaining it was Helen not him. James Ross was not wearing his pink shirt, but was sporting sideburns from the 60s,and it appears that David Pyke's grandchildren won three busking awards. Then of course Nick Leywood was accused of two timing, but it turned out to be his daughter, and Paul Murray has risen to new heights working for Facebook!!

Our guest speaker today was our own club member and professional photographer John Egan. John gave the members an update on whats new in the world of digital photography.
Unfortunately the projector was not working and John had to give his talk without the aid of graphic examples. He did a great job.
John's first subject was Pixels. He began by explaining a bit about pixels, and said pixels are really just photovoltaic diodes. He said that more pixels do not necessarily guarantee you better photos. Smart phones have high pixels but very small sensors.
To get the best photos you need a large sensor with larger pixels. The sensor size is the key. He mentioned the red, green and blue filters (see slide) and how they combine to build colours.
John 's secong point was the growth of mirrorless cameras. He and Maria had just returned from a Wedding Photographers conference in Las Vegas and mirrorless cameras were the main new product. The standard DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) has a mechancial mirror that shows you what the lens sees and when you take tyhe picture it moves out of the way. Mirrorless cameras use a video screen like a smartphone. The advantage is they are lighter and all electronic. (see photos at right)
His third point in his presentation was a new photo editing program called Skylam. It was for sale at the convention and John bought a copy and was very impressed. It is an easier software to use than Photoshop, and allows the user to improve a photo in less than two minutes. See the two light house photos below. This first one is rather dull while the second was improved with Skylam in about 90 seconds.

Rotary Information was provided by Ken Cook, who was quick to make the connection between our visiting Rotarian, and the topic that he had researched - the early life of Paul Harris.
Rotary's founder was born in Wisconsin in 1868, and was a larrikin at school. He studied Law, but worked in sales, media as a reporter, an actor and a cowboy, before moving to Chicago and opening a law firm.
Paul set up Rotary as a social group, to provide fellowship, and later changed the focus, to service to the community.
The second chapter of this saga was relevant to former exchange students, and Ken announced that another inbound female student would return to visit Wollundry in May.
Fernanda De Barba was hosted by the Hornibrook, Thomas and Watts families during her sojourn in Wagga in 1996. Unfortunately, Ken will be away in Dubai, but his son, Stewart will look after Fernando and Fernanda.
The day of the visit is 25 May, and our visitors will be at Infuso Coffee Lounge at 10.00am
