Once again another meeting was full to the hill. Our Guest Speaker George Thomas delivered a very interesting presentation on his recent visit to the Middle East and Afghanistan with "Everyman's Welfare Service". George and Everyman certainly offer our Defence Force Personnel a lot of comfort while on duty overseas. Well done George and thank you for your service. We also had David Post and John Harper from Rurual Outreach Counselors as our guests today. PP Geoff Bruest presented David and John with a cheque for $1000 to help them with their valuable work.

The Food & Wine Festival is only 7 days away so please register on the roster. We need everybody helping so we can put the event on. Partners are welcome to come along and help.Laurie and his committee have been working many hours in planning this event and they need our support. Saturday 24th March 2018.

Some interesting facts.
We will do some sums and get some more accurate figures but:-
It took 20 years to raise our first million $ 1997-98. Aproximately another 10 years to raise our 2nd million some time between 2007 and 20o8. According to some sums David Byfield has done this last week we are over $3m we think at the moment we are closer to $3.2m not the $4m reported previously, still a wonderful effort considering these are Nett figures and pretty well all into our community. You can multiply that figure by almost three times when calculating money generated by the wider community as a result of our efforts.
I have been requested to include this in our Bulletin for a couple of weeks. Will give it one more run next week and that might do.
21st Feb 2018 - As some of you know I like Australian bush poetry and Murray Hartin is one of my favourite poets. With all that is going on in Canberra it has not taken him long to pen this one, it is hot off the press. Good on you Muzz. It's all happening in Canberra – not so much in the bedroom.

Hi David,
As per our discussion today, here is a roster for the upcoming Rotaract Meetings. It would be great to have some Wollundry members along! As well as some young people who could be potential members.
Our meetings are held every second Monday at 6:15pm for 6:30pm. They alternate between CSU and a pub, as we continue our year-long pub crawl.
All meetings at Charles Sturt University are held in Building 14, Room 101 and have a guest speaker, so are slightly formal. Meetings at a pub, however, are quite casual and more social.
To get to our room at CSU: When driving out to the uni, go straight through the big round-a-bout on Boorooma St. Follow the road along and turn left at the next round-a-bout. Turn into the first carpark (P11) on the left and then follow the path next to the disabled parking spots. There's another path on the right about half way down the slope, follow it along and Building 14 will be on your right. Room 101 is on the left of the first floor. Building 14 also holds the Wal Fyfe Theatre, so if you see signs to that you're in the right place.

Also we saw the return of a much respected former member George Thomas as our guest speaker. Tim Hutchins introduced his guest, Stuart Herriot
He also welcomed home the travellers.
New Members Night on 18th April
Past President Geoff Breusthanded a cheque to John Harper and David Post to support their work with mental health in the Rural Community. This cheque represents the contribution from Beyond Bank to the Community Service Account that we hold with them, and the President chooses his own beneficiary. In accepting the cheque, David assured us that the money would be spent in the local area on the ground!
NATIONAL YOUTH BUSKING CHALLENGE
This is a great initiative by David Pyke designed to highlight our young talent and to bring added interest to the Riverina BMW Food and Wine Festival.
FOOD AND WINE
David Byfield has asked all members to try and do at least two sessions of the Roster, e.g. set up and gate, or pull down and wine sales etc. The festival is only a couple of weeks away and it is a situation of "all hands on deck" where possible. Rosters will be placed on the table at the next couple of meetings.

Claire who is President of Wagga Rotaract came to our meeting last week to catch up with members and to appeal to us to give her names of those young people we think might be interested in joining Rotaract. Claire is doing a great job but needs help to attract more members. The Rotaract Club has lost a few members lately due to changes in employment and students finishing their courses. Currently they have ten members but need more. The Rotaract Club meets at CSU for dinner and a guest speaker. Meetings are held on the 1st and 3rd Wed of each month at 6 p.m in the SRC room at Charles Sturt University.
PP Rick Priest related the damage that had taken place at the Mens Shed, and not for the first time. Vandals had caused an enormous amount of damage, and two pet dogs were destroyed.This is heartbreaking particularly for Rick who has put his heart and soul into the enterprise.
Seemingly unrelated was the destruction of yet another stolen car. But the message was sobering as he showed us the remains of a gas bottle that had been burnt in the vehicle. The explosion was massive and rocked houses several meters away.

Tim Hutchisns came in for special mention with a bevey of new guests, Rick Priest for his ability with the ladies, Doug Sutton for his hither too unknown engineering skills,Greg Conkey for being brave enough to put up a Q and A. and Geoff Breust for his inability to get parking fees waived.( Peter Clucas pointed out that it was not a CAR port but an AIR port!!) Fr Bill was given a lesson on sermons from George Burns, and George was given advice from Jimmy Durante although its doubtful that Kay has the speech impediment!!

Doug reported that the team was made up largely of retirees, and that the day was beautiful.
There was a small crowd, but stall holders were happy with the sales they were making.
The day resulted in $1675.60 being banked, with gate collections being$465.60
John Smith who is the coordinator of the Market is looking for someone with Social Media knowledge who might be able to take over the marketing of the market. We have a FaceBook page, website and an email list. These need to be kept up to date and as well an SMS service is used. Anyone?

Today PP Greg Conkey took us on a fascinating journey describing the origins of the Rotary Wheel
Did you know
that the Wheel was designed by Chicago Rotarian Montague Bear in in 1920?
that the wheel illustrated "Civilisation and Movement"
that in 1922 the Wheel was adopted by all Rotary Clubs.
hat in 1923 this became dictated by Rotary International.
that the wheel has 24 cogs, and six spokes and now has a keyway to make it useful.
(The official Wheel has undergone a few iterations, but it is essential that we all use the correct "logo" and don't butcher it as has happened in more recent times. You don't see a local variation of the Mercedes Three Pointed Star, or MacDonalds Golden Arches. So we should be careful to follow the authorised logo as well.
Our guest Speaker was George Thomas , an ex member of Wollundry who spoke on his experience in Afghanaistan and other parts of the Middle East where Australia has a presence.
George is a high ranking member of Everymans which is a non denominational Christian programme designed to help service men and women cope with everyday life in the armed forces. It is particularly valuable when in combat situations.
Initially he was at an airbase on the fringes of Dubai, and here helped service people get orientation to the sensitivities of normal life in the Middle East. "My house, my rules".
The base was extensive and he and the team were given a vehicle to assist them get around.The temperatures often exceed 50C and Zooper Doopers became his welcome trademark.
The work they do his highly valued by the military brass, and they were given great support. George also flew on to Kabul, where he saw first hand the members of the ADF in combat roles. Some he explained were not long out of Kapooka. He spoke highly of the personnel and singled out outr Bushmaster as an extraordinary vehicle that had saves many severe injuries and not one reported fatality.
President Paul thanked George in the usual manner. It should noted that George managed to pass through several security points and not once did he close down one single airport!
