Formation of Wollundry-Wagga Wagga
Interest meeting held on Monday 13 Feb 1978 with 21 prospective members showing sufficient interest shown – Wagga Wagga Mid-Day Rotary Club formed as a provisional club .
At the next meeting at 12.30pm on Tuesday 28th February, the Provisional Rotary Club of Wollundry Wagga Wagga was formed. Graham Burmeister, Ken Cook & 27 others accepted the invitation to join the new club.
Graham Hornibrook, a member of South Wagga Rotary was elected as Chairman.
On the 7th March, the 1st meeting held of a lunch time club in D970. Members Tony Youngman & Graham Hornibrook gave a “this is my life” presentation.
Bulletin Cover: on the 4th April, local artist Ron Pratt was our guest speaker and at the conclusion of his address, presented the club with the sketch of Wollundry Lagoon.
Clubs 1st project: sponsoring Greg Byrne to the RYLA camp at Yanco Agricultural College from 6th-13th May.
Charter Night: on the 1st July 1978, DG Ken White presented our Charter to President Graham Hornibrook.
Sunday Markets:
At meeting on 31st October, 1979 John Skeers informed the members that he was investigating the possibility of a Trash & Treasure Market. On the 12th December John presented his proposal – based on a similar market in Canberra. It was suggested that the gross profit in the 1st year of operation would be $20,000 Stallholders to pay $4 for a site. 1st Trash & Treasure Markets on 4th Feb 1979 with 29 stall holders, 2,000 in attendance raising $418. Following the threat of litigation, named changed in July 1981 to Wagga Wagga Sunday Market. Million Dollar Market held on 9th November 1997 with dinner held on 20 March 2009 to celebrate the 2 Million Dollars raised.
Farmers Markets:
At Changeover Dinner on 26th June 2001, Sally Kennard (Peter’s wife) raised the idea of a Farmers Market with Doug Sutton. Following an enthusiastic response from members, the 1st Farmers Market being held on the 8th December 2001.

Noel Barnes Memorial Scholarship:
Instigated following the death of Noel Barnes, known as the father of Wollundry, in 1981
CSU Scholarship:
Launched on 3rd December 1991
F.A.I.M Teams:
Clubs 1st F.A.I.M team organised and led by Ken Cook and including David Benn, Colin Butt, Jack Morgan (Kooringal club), Rick Priest and John Smith went to Papitalai, Manus Island, PNG in April 1992
John asked Darren Wallace to the podium to give an update on the CSU scholarships. Darren spoke about the scholarship and reminded members that it is a $6,000 science scholarship that is paid out over 3 years. There this also $500 book prize that is presented to two students. Darren informed members that CSU manages the distribution of the scholarship funds and listed the current scholarship students.
The program is a combined effort of all of the Wagga Rotary Clubs to train young people in driver safety and awareness through workshop training classes. Up to 500 students are trained this year. The dates will be March 9 to 13th and Doug has asked members to mark those dates in their diaries as he will be calling for volunteers.
