Our Tuesday Meeting
Guest Speaker Tanya White

Tanya is the principal of Ashmont Public School. It was a refereshing and enlightening talk which chartered the improvement in a school's performance, from well below average to among the best in the region.
It is heavily biased to disadvantage, but strong leadership and committmeent from the staff has seen the overall school performance change dramatically.  This is in no small part attributed to attendance at
school. To be able to boast 94% is no mean feat, particularly in the social demograph that this school is in.

Tanya attributed this largely to the breakfast scheme that Wollundry supports. Students come to school and have breakfast. It might well be the only meal they get in the day. Imagine that!. And this breakfast is a
constant in the children's lives; it is a social as well as nourishing experience. They then go into class able to learn and absorb the good things the teachers have for them. It is a very worthwhile scheme that
is really changing lives and changing things for the better. A wonderful talk that had the Club spellbound.
Presidents Report March 11
President Phil welcomed our guest speaker Tanya White, and visitors Rob Herriott, Jonty Shuter and Michael Thomas.

The Food and Wine roster sheets are out and almost certainly finalised. If you haven't yet done so, contact David Byefield to take up a job.We have had some pretty good media coverage this week with the melanoma news article and our donation as well as the positive Sunday Market article from Ken Grimson in the DA.

Phil  also asked us to consider the Little Paths ball this coming Friday . It is a fund raiser for children off the streets in Africa. Phil added that we have been very good supporters of this event in the past and that he would like that to continue if possible.

Another reminder of the conference in Orange. This is a great weekend for Wollundry, with a lot of social activity as welln as a bit of learning. Dont miss it if you can. As well we are in a unique position this year to have a World Conference in Sydney. Here is where you can really find out just what goes on in the Rotary world.
Markets Report
Under the skillful and steady gaze of Michael Georgiou the team managed a return of just under $1000 for the day. Dick Smith, Paul Murray and Steve McCoy who were ably supported byJohn Egan and Andy Irvine had a great day.
The sun was warm but not hot, and the breakfast and morning tea were just about the best. Dawn did a great job of making sure no-one went hungry.

An incident highlighted the necessity to explain that taking a Market Site is not contingent on sales!! Michael handled that superbly.Andy fixed the lock on the womens toilet which was very handy
A leaking tap defeated Steve McCoy but that too has been rectified. Two students attempting to attain the Duke of Edinburgh were very helpful in the set up and the take down. They will be with us or a few weeks.

Michael reported that the use of the drone made his job much easier as he could view the whole market without leaving his chair. Paul Murray would like one to help find his cattle, and Dick thought it would be very handy to monitor the growing livestock on his small farm!!
What is in that box, Dick?

The market financials were:
Gate:   $501.25
Stalls   $  280
Ins      $  85
Total   $901.25

The Farmers Market

The Farmers Market was held this week as well. In the abscence of a detailed report, we heard from Paul Gianniotis that the day went very well. The team all (most)  turned up on time and special mention was made of John Daley who was on his first foray!
The return was in excss of $2000 which is a great result
Meeting Speakers
The Thirty seconders:
Doug Sutton rounded up volunteers for RYDA. This is another great programme run by Rotary. The idea is to introduce school students to the hazards as well as the pleasures of driving.
It takes Year 9 students through the costs of owning a car, the consequences of irresponsible driving, as well as the dynamics of a moving motor vehicle. An accident victim talks, as well as police and driving instructors. It is very worthwhile and even if you didn't put your hand up, its a great experience to see thechange in attitude of the young people. We are hosting next Monday at the Equex Centre, starting 8.30.

Next week we are going to Bruce Spinks' Olive Farm. It will be for a 12.30 start, but as it is a bit out of town , please leave a little traveltime. It should be a top visit. It will be a barbeque lunch. Click on the map below to enlarge it.
