Guest Ken Dillon and Geoff Fellows were welcomed to our meeting by President Darren. After the usual thanksgiving and opening of the meeting,
it was a day for fellowship with no guest speaker and the only formality was a report on last night's Board meeting which was held at The Lawson, courtesy of Peter MacKinnon.
Darren informed the Club that another venue is being sought for our regular club and committee meetings as Romanos is now too expensive. The Lawson is as excellent venue but has no catering, however this issue can be addressed. If any member has other suggestions please come forward.
Darren congratulated the Membership Committee for organising last Wednesday's Membership Event. It went off very well with a real buzz in the room. Twenty six prospects attended and a high proportion of Club Members were present. Darren encouraged those who had invited guests to follow up with a call, or an email, or a letter.
Three motions were passed:
- To donate $4,000 per year to the Rotary Foundation.
- To support a motion from the Rotary Club of Jerambomberra to seek the ban of Nuclear Weapons.
- To reduce the cost of the RDU Magazine.
Darren is organising a trip to Cambodia and encourages anyone to come along. It is part of the Help Cambodia initiative which Darren and a number of Wagga people started. The trip will be for two weeks, costs are $2,400 including air fares and accommodation. One week will be spent in Siam Reep and one week in Phnom Pen.
Three of our members are on the sick list and we wish them a speedy recovery: Stuart Heriot, Peter Crozier and Bob Willis.
There will be a regular meeting next Tuesday despite Changeover being the following Saturday.
