Our Guest Speaker
In recent years we have been able to form strong bonds with the South Wagga Apex Club, and Andrew gave us an interesting outline of the club and its history.
The club was formed in 1961, and in that 55 yrs or so has awarded 20 life members, and contributed a staggering 44,000 hours of community service. It has also contributed more than $2.5 million dollars to to worthy causes.
Currently it has 17 members, and meets fortnightly. Apexians are aged under 45 and consequently have strong family committments. "Being a Father is much more important than Apex"
Apex can admit women, and there are 106 clubs nation wide.
Currently South Wagga Apex is involved with the Gumi Festival, which was a very great success. It was closely scrutinised by the Maritime Services this year, and the Club was congratulated by them for the manner in which they implemented the rather stringent safety rules. A big feather in their cap! This will make it much easier to conduct the race next year. Wollundry members acted as on shore scrutineers for them this year.
They also run the Food Appeal, and the Lake to Lake event.
In recent times they have swung behind us at the Beers and Gears, and The Food and Wine Festival, and assist in the same manner the Wagga Book Fair.
The highlight is the cooperation that we have established between the two organisations, Rotary and Apex.
Andrew was thanked by acting President John.
