John Egan Receives Rotary Foundation Award

PDG John Egan delivered a heartfelt toast to Rotary International. He is being congratulated above by PDG Henry Gardiner who responded to the toast. John received a District Service Award for his contribution to the Rotary Foundation.
In his address John spoke of the amazing work that the 1.2 million members of Rotary have achieved world wide. He spoke of the scourge of Polio and the effect it has on individuals and families.

He asked “Can you imagine living for 60 years in an iron lung? Can you imagine walking with a stick dragging a useless limb behind you? Can you imagine having to beg for a living because you can barely stand, let alone walk? Yet this is what Rotary has avoided for thousands of people by your efforts, by your donations to the Rotary Foundation.”

“Fresh water is vital for humanity. Many live without it. Your efforts are changing all that for thousands. As one grandmother said: “After Rotary came, the children stopped dying!”
