Our Guest speaker was Paula Tooth from Murrumbidgee Life Education.
Paula has been an educator with Murrumbidgee Life Education in Wagga and the
surrounding region for over 16 years. Her work involves implementing programs in schools
to deliver a healthy lifestyle message to school children from kindergarten to year 12.
The programs cover healthy diet, alcohol and dru messages and are tailored to suit the
various stages of childrens education.
"Healthy Harold" is a popular giraffe character used in the k - 6 years to deliver messages
on healthy lifestyle and diet.
Older years are given information to make choices about using alcohol and drugs and the effects
they have on growing bodies.
All programs are delivered as part of the school curriculum.
The programs were started by the Reverend Ted Noffs to educate children about the effects of
drugs and alcohol on their bodies.
There are now 45 mobile learning centre vans in NSW featuring Healthy Harold.
The service is funded for years k-6 by the NSW government. The main areas covered are healthy living and eating,
safety, bullying,and cyber bullying and etiquette.
The messaging for high schools focuses on alcohol, smoking, and illicit drugs and how to stay safe.
The service is looking for volunteer drivers for the learnig centres (MR licence required).
