Future Directions - Peter Clucas

One of our younger members Peter Clucas gave a passionate speech about our club and its future, giving members food for thought. He described Wollundry Rotary Club as a landmark club, vibrant and on top of the leader board.

Peter said we have 78 members, by far the largest in the District and a large club by any measure. Of the 78 members, 17 have been members for over 20 years and the average membership is 11.5 years. We have a combined service of 911 years.

What's good about the Club? According to Peter it's the characters in the club. By implication he includes all members. Characters make character. That is what is good about Wollundry - the members.

We have a heavy work load in Wollundry servicing our markets and the food and wine festival. Peter believes it is important to get the balance between Club and life right. We must remember that we are a volunteer organization. In Peter's view Club should rate fourth behind Family, Health and Career. Club success should not be measured only by money raised but on happiness experienced in raising the funds.

Peter praised the work of the Social Committee, in particular the organisation of the Yachting weekend, the Talbingo weekend and Flying weekends. He encouraged more social events.

Peter said that his life was enriched because of Rotary. Strong friendships forge a strong club.

His speech, a forerunner to his introduction of Mark Hillis as a Paul Harris awardee, gave us pause for reflection and encouraged us to think to the strong bonds between members and how we can encourage a grow this aspect of Club.
