DG David Kennedy Visits Wollundry

David was introduced to us by AG Alan Sharpe.  David is a real estate agent based in Blayney who also runs a small grazing property at Kings Plains.  Our club is his 12^th visit of 40 he has to do as DG.

David spoke to us of RI President Gary Huang (pronounced Hung) Light Up Rotary vision being based on a saying of the Chinese legendary teacher, politician and philosopher  Confucius: It is better to light one small candle than to curse the darkness.  It is the responsibility of every Rotarian to light up one candle – or interpreted to mean sign up at least one new member.

David spoke about one small Rotarian joining Rotary in Nambour Qld who went on to become RI President and set Rotary on the task of eradicating Polio in 1979. That was Sir Clem Renouf. The eradication of Polio is now considered to be within the next 3 years.

David spoke about the KISS principle as being his philosophy in business and in Rotary. District 9700 has written goals and a task this year is to induct new members at a rate of 5% of the current district membership of 1100 to contain the decline in numbers from resignations and passings.

He is also introducing the Paul Harris Society to the district aimed at - as he said – members earning too much money. More on the Paul Harris Society will no doubt be forthcoming soon.

Finally he spoke of the District PR team including PDG John Egan, the use of social Media such as Facebook to spread the Rotary message in our district and of a proposal to have drop down list on the district web page to encourage cross pollination of ideas between clubs in the district.
