Our guest speakers were a family, originally from New Zealand, moved to Australia, and then to Kenya to pursue a passion for helping develop remote areas in that country. The focus of their work relates to safe water and sanitation, and they have worked to help local communities have access to these basic requirements.

Peter and Sharon Crean are in Australia to alert Rotarians and the wider community to the desperate plight of the Kenyan people, and how effective their organisation can be in delivering aid. Their slide presentation was very professional, and illustrated both the depressing conditions that exist, and the improvement that can be made with modest investment.
The delivery points in the villages are Schools and Hospitals, where a bore can access water at little over 100 feet, and hand pumps at the well head are secure and simple mechanisms for watering a village.
There was much detail on the need of the East African people, and the passion of this family for the people that they help. The table of African artefacts on sale was near empty because all the stock had been sold, but our members were supporting the Creans by buying what they could.
