The Art Market in Australia

Roger Dedman will be looking at the way art is bought and sold in Australia, focussing on the major auction houses, art market movements / recent trends and the suitability of art as a form of investment.

Dr Roger Dedman holds degrees in mathematics, art history and education, with a PhD in Fine Arts from the University of Melbourne.
In 1996 he published The Australian Art Market Movements Handbook, covering the twenty years from 1975 to 1995. This was updated yearly, and in 2002 Christies took over publication. When Christies closed their Australian art operations, publication was taken up by the art auctioneers Deutscher-Menzies until 2010.
Roger has also written numerous articles for various art magazines, including a regular article on different aspects of the art market for 'Art and Australia. He has  published  several books in other subject areas.
