Student Scholarship winners

Scholarships
Dr Stephen Mew introduced each of the students who had won a scholarship. These students were selected from the seven high schools in our area. The awards are based on academic achievement, community service and financial need.
Michael Gunion, from the Fraser Academy, participatedoin sports, drama, the Food Bank and Family Hamper and was President of the Student Council. He intends to attend Langara, and wants to teach grade 12 history and become and actor.
Martha Tarbot is from Kits and will be attending UVic next fall. She was Student Council secretary and taught workshops in unicycling and juggling. She intends to major in chemistry.
May Lee is from Prince of Wales and is bound for the Sauder School of Business at UBC in the fall. She was an active volunteer at the YMCA during High School. She also participated in the Salvation Army's holiday hampers program and worked in her school the heighten the awareness of poverty.
Jeff Sung was celebrating his birthday today and wished to thank Rotary for offering him the great honor of this scholarship.
Jimmy Lee graduated from Lord Byng. He intends to work in web design and wants to create a multi-lingual portal allowing access to all Web services. He envisions competing with Google and Microsoft and want to use his earnings to improve conditions around the world.
Chloe Packer intends to take a year off next year. She has lined up a position in a school in India where she will teach for two months, then UBC or SFU will be in her future, studying languages and diplomacy. While in high school, she participated in student council, the environment club and Helping Hands
