"Cross Egypt Challenge" that aims to promote tourism to Egypt and prove that Egypt is still safe for tourism.  Rotary Club of Alexandria Cosmopolitan - District 2451 –

Cross Egypt Challenge is an international cross-country motorcycle and scooter adventure tour conducted throughout the majestic and fascinating Egypt. Participation is open for Rotarians and non-Rotarians a like and their accompanying spouses or friends from around the globe. People who do not ride motorcycles can also join this amazing adventure and be hosted in air-conditioned chase vans.

This amazing Rotary project started in 2011 and for the past 8 years, Rotarians and riders from over 45 countries took part in the adventurous challenge. This year the challenge will start on October 17 and will last for 10 days and will pass by Egypt's top attractions and off the beaten track destinations.

A normal practice we are used to conduct during Cross Egypt Challenge is an annual "Sahara Rotary Meeting" where participating Rotarians along with Rotaracts from our organizing team conduct an official Rotary meeting in the Egyptian Desert –

Hoop-A-Thon Bursary Winner from Vancouver Arbutus
Winner: Janiffer
Janiffer is planning to take the Citations in Health Studies program at Langara College for one year to complete the prerequisites for the Bachelors of Nursing program at BCIT.  The Bachelor of Nursing program at BCIT is 4 years.   She will graduate from B.C.I.T as a Registered Nurse.
The Rotary Scholarship will help her pay for her tuition and books and allow her to work less during the school year and focus more on her studies.  Receiving this scholarship will help me her to get one more step closer in achieving her goal in becoming a nurse.
Janiffer has been involved in volunteering with the Strathcona Daycamp, Daycare and Youth Council.  Being a volunteer at Strathcona Daycamp for the past 5 years has allowed her to guide and assist youth in participation with others in a well-mannered way.  Her contribution has allowed the children’s parent to be at ease dropping their children off at day camp.   At Strathcona Daycare she helped toddlers and young kids have fun when they are left without their parents.   In the Strathcona Youth Council she organized events for the community and elementary students.  Some examples are movie nights, clothing donations and mini carnivals.  These events helped youth meet friends and bond with each other.
At Britannia Secondary School she is the executive treasurer of the Student Council.  She deals with the budget and planning, financial expenditures and budget reports to the whole council.  Being and executive of the council she also deals with planning school wide events, making executive decisions, and contributing ideas.  She help organize the Terry Fox Run.  She went to the classrooms and educated the student body about the history and purpose of this event.  She also organized a Breakfast for Bus drivers at the bus stops.  In organizing this event she gained more confidence in her abilities as a leader but she also felt grateful to have had the opportunity to serve and appreciate the hardworking bus drivers that often get over looked.
At school she is a member of the Leo’s Club Japanese Exchange program, Grad Committee, Green Club and Link Crew.  In the Leo Club she assisted with fundraising to help people in Yemen recovering from the war.   This project showed her the need to help people globally.  In the Japanese exchange program she welcomed the Japanese exchange students into Britannia and helped them learn about the Canadian Culture.  In the Grad Committee she planned activities for the graduating students.  In the Green Club she was involved with making the school more environmental and ecofriendly by collecting plastics, Styrofoam and recycling.  Janiffer and her friends organized events such as meatless Mondays, clothing drive to educate the student body.  They donated food and clothing to the homeless and learned about sustainable clothing and how it effects our environment.  In Link Crew she welcomed younger grade to high school and helped make the transition to high school easier and more comfortable.
At Britannia she also volunteered at Britannia’s MoreSport Soccer Camp at Britannia Community Center, where she helped kids to learn and improve their soccer skills.  One of her responsibilities was to demonstrate soccer kicks and maneuvers to help youth learn these skills.
Interacting with youth and supporting youth participation in sporting activities has really helped her develop her love for working with children.
