Your Body's Immune Response

This response includes all of the mechanisms that the body uses to prevent invasion by a foreign substance. The foreign substance , or Antigen,  includes microbes such as viruses and bacteria, and foreign cells such as virus infected cells, transplanted cells, Cancer Cells and the body's own cells if they have become altered. This leads to autoimmune diseases. The immune response includes the innate response such as cilia and mucus, and adaptive response that involves B and T lymphocytes. These produce antibodies or special immune cells that destroy foreign cells
