Vancouver Arbutus
Salvation Army Harbour Light
119 E Cordova St
Vancouver, BC
Canada

For 70 years, Harbour Light has been a place of miracles and new beginning in the downtown eastside of Vancouver.

They offer a mix of community and residential services to meet a wide range of individual needs and goals:

• Community Meals
• Shelters
• Detox
• Addiction Treatment
• Correctional Community Residential Facility
• Affordable Housing
• Spiritual Care

The Salvation Army Vancouver Harbour Light does not discriminate in the delivery of community and social services. Anyone who comes to The Salvation Army will receive assistance based solely on their need and our capacity to help, regardless of race, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, age or religion.

Many of volunteers tell Harbour Light that being of service to others enriches their day and gives them a deep sense of fulfillment.

As we will be working in a food service environment, please kindly come with close-toe/heel shoes, long pants, face mask, with long hair tied up if applicable. We encourage volunteers to bring their own mask,  but can provide one, and will provide apron and gloves.

There is a Provincial Health Order in place that requires all volunteers at Detox, Treatment and CRF facilities to be vaccinated with 2 doses of Canadian-approved vaccines. Our team will be checking your vaccine verification when you sign in. Volunteers who cannot provide verification will not be able to volunteer. It is fine if volunteers did not get the vaccine in Canada, as long as they can provide English verification that it is a Canadian-approved vaccine. Thank you for understanding!

Getting there:

If you are driving: please remember to leave NOTHING of value in your car! Metered street parking is available in the neighbourhood, and there are several parkades throughout the neighbourhood; the one at Keefer and Columbia is most affordable. Please note: there is an EasyPark parkade immediately next door to Harbour Light; however, we have had volunteers experience break-ins in the past, so park there at your own risk! Having said that, many of our staff park there or on street parking everyday. Don’t forget your change for parking, as some of the machines only accept coins!

If you are taking transit, you have a lot of options. The 3, 4, 7, 8, 14, 16, 19, 20, 22, and 135 buses all stop within 1-3 blocks of Harbour Light. Waterfront, Stadium, and Main Street SkyTrain stations are roughly a 10 minute walk away.
