Community Service - Open Call Meeting Invitation
August 13th; 1:30pm
Greetings Fellow Rotarians:
A few weeks ago a number of our members brought up concerns regarding the large number of deaths related to Drug overdose and whether Rotary could take some leadership to get the message out to try and prevent these tragic and unnecessary deaths. As your CSC Chair I would like to invite you to our meeting on August 13 at 1:30 after our regular meeting to discuss if our Rotary club could take some leadership to develop drug preventive promotion strategies. Back in the 70’s over 65% of our population were smokers, recent BC statistics stated only 7.7% are now smokers. If we achieved that amazing reduction of smokers can’t this be duplicated regarding taking drugs? I do hope you can join us at the meeting and come prepared to discuss possible solutions.

Chair’s Announcements:
Welcome to our guests, new and returning, as well as our own members who have taken time out of busy schedules to attend. We are grateful to see new faces, remember guests are ALWAYS welcome at our meetings.
While our club Admin, Carolyn, is away dealing with some medical issues, Patricia Tait, whom many of you have met, will be covering for her. And Linda Enns is here today to take care of us. We wish Carolyn a speedy recovery. In the meantime, please keep sending your inquiries by email to admin@rotaryvancouver.org.
Patricia comes with a lot of experience, however, is new to Rotary. Kindly support her by helping her learn all things Rotary and especially introducing yourself if you haven’t already done so.

New member, Tamlyn Mafika, introduced herself to the club and told her story. Tamlyn was a Rotarian in Whitehorse for a couple of years before moving to Vancouver and transferring her membership to our club. She is a warm, welcome addition to our club.
The group took part in a networking session, chatting at their tables and mingling between them. The questions that were provided to start the discussions were:
Introduction
Rotarians: Why did you join Rotary? or Guests: Why did you decide to attend today?
What's the best piece of advice you've ever received?
As seen before, the conversations were flowing and lively.
Meeting adjourned with a toast: "If what we think is what we become, happy thinking."
