Fireside chat with Arthur Griffiths
Arthur is a very proud Canadian (born and raised) and businessperson, a true entrepreneur and devoted philanthropist, following in the reputation and footsteps of the Griffiths Family legacy.
He is the former owner of the Vancouver Canucks and Vancouver Grizzlies. He also financed, built and owned General Motors Place (now Rogers Arena). During the Arena construction phase, we were awarded an NBA expansion franchise, Vancouver Grizzlies. In the late 1990’s, he chaired the Vancouver/ Whistler Bid Society to bring the 2010 Winter and Paralympic games to Vancouver/Whistler.
He was taught by the great examples from my parent’s legendary business career that it’s very important to give back to your community. Our club will be honoured to present Arthur Griffiths with a Paul Harris Fellowship Award in recognition of the exceptional contributions Arthur has given to the betterment of our society. Welcome to our guests, new and returning, as well as our own members who have taken time out of busy schedules to attend. We are grateful to see new faces, remember guests are ALWAYS welcome at our meetings.
Again, our guest total hit a record! 35 guests this week! We had a full house!
What a great experience! We had 9 international guests attending; coming from Hong Kong South, Malta, from RC Bridgewater Somerset/UK, Belgium and three visitors from the largest Chapter in Africa, Uganda! So many exchanged flags, how phenomenal!

Darren Dahl, Dean of the Sauder School of Business, as part of our speaker series meetings, presented this week.
The room was full of members and guests eager to dive deep into the topic of where education is at and where it is going.
Darren is the Dean of the UBC Sauder School of Business and the innovate BC Professor in Marketing and Behavioural Science. With over 20 years at UBC, Darren has held various leadership roles, including Director of the Robert H. Lee Graduate School. His research interests encompass new product development, creativity, emotions in consumption contexts, social influence, and social marketing. Darren has earned several accolades, such as the Killam Research Award and the 3M Teaching Fellowship, recognizing his contributions to both academia and student development.
Darren introduced the different faculties (Applied Science, Arts, Dentistry, Forestry, Land and Food Systems, Law, Medicine, Pharmacy, SSOB & Science). He spoke about the 2024 UBC Sauder Strategic Plan, their Mission and Vision and some of the UBC Sauder Research Programs. He also addressed diversity in the student enrolment, how well respected and valued UBC Sauder School of Business is nationally and internationally, and how the School is planning for an even brighter future!
