Mellisa Mills is the Founder and CEO of Spread'em. Starting with $500 and a bicycle, she has grown this company into a multi-million dollar one with her plant-based, dairy-free cheeses and dips.

Chair’s Announcements:
Welcome to our guests, new and returning, as well as our own members who have taken time out of busy schedules to attend. We are grateful to see new faces, remember guests are ALWAYS welcome at our meetings.
We had another amazing turnout, with a total of over 60 attendees - of which 27 were guests. Among the guests were two Rotarians from Crosby, UK and another from Kenya. We also welcomed Glen Ringdal, former VP and director of marketing and communications for the Vancouver Canucks and member of the BC Sports Hall of Fame; Jyrki Lumme, former Canuck drafter out of Finland, who spent most of his career in Vancouver and was part of the 1994 team that reached the Stanley Cup Finals and Rob Wilkins, Member of the Vancouver Canucks Alumni Foundation Board.

Arthur Griffins shared the latest updates about the two locations of Canuck Place (Vancouver and Abbotsford), stories about how it was founded, how it was funded and developed over time.
Canuck Place Children’s Hospice helps give short lives the gift of great days. They provide pediatric palliative care to children 0–19 with life-threatening illnesses and journey with families during uncertain times. With their team of compassionate clinical experts, they support families to make lasting memories and live life to the fullest. They provide pain and symptom management, medical respite care, grief and bereavement counselling. And they provide loving end-of-life care. All at no cost to families—thanks to the generous donors who make this specialized care possible.
Arthur emphasized that families who have had children stay at Canuck Place become friends of the hospice and its staff forever. Most come back to help families and children who are experiencing what they once did by sharing their own experiences, offering support and showing compassion.
Arthur shared stories about being the owner of the Vancouver Canucks and the Vancouver Grizzlies, his ups and downs with both teams, successes and challenges.
including his memories about the 1994 Stanley Cup, which Jyrki Lumme was part of.
He was asked about the 3 people who influenced him most in his life, which was not too hard to answer - his Dad, his role model who worked hard all his life and always had time for anyone who needed attention or advice; his Mom who showed and taught him integrity and kindness and Pat Quinn - remembered as a man with deep capacity for kindness and humour. A legacy of a man.
Today, Arthur keeps busy running an international trading company - often being up in the early morning hours working in all time zones.
After the chat moderated by Rotarian Paul Martin, Arthur was awarded the Paul Harris Award.
The Paul Harris Fellow recognition acknowledges individuals who contribute, or who have contributions made in their name, of $1,000 to The Rotary Foundation.
Rotary established the recognition in 1957 to encourage and show appreciation for substantial contributions to what was then the Foundation’s only program, Rotary Foundation Fellowships for Advanced Study, the precursor to Ambassadorial Scholarships. Learn more about the Paul Harris Society here
