Hosted by Mindy Tulsi-Ingram, this is an opportunity to mingle and get to know other Rotarians and TCC members better. Let your hair down, play some pool or darts, listen to some music and engage in lively conversations.
Appetizers will be provided, cash bar for drinks. Guests are welcome, and indeed encouraged so bring your friends and colleagues. A great way to introduce them to our venue and hospitality. While there, take the opportunity to invite them to upcoming Rotary meetings and events. Check your ClubRunner app for the list of events and meetings. Remember you can register guests for any of our meetings or events when you register yourself (or after the fact as well).

A heartfelt thank you to everyone involved: the organizing committee, the volunteers, the riders and supporters. All of whom helped bring this, the 39th RCoV Ride for Hearing, to fruition.
We have received a few requests from incoming international students related to Rotarians who are going to be attending UBC for the fall semester. Specifically we've had requests from France & Germany. They are looking for some help with accommodation near UBC from end of August through to December. If you can help, contact Patricia (admin@rotaryvancouver.org) for more information.

Chair’s Announcements:
Welcome to our guests, new and returning, as well as our own members who have taken time out of busy schedules to attend. We are grateful to see new faces, remember guests are ALWAYS welcome at our meetings.
Great to see everyone who came out for the 39th Ride for Hearing. Great weather for a great event. Congratulations to all who organized and supported it.
The last RCoV Board meeting was a very productive one. The key metrics were identified that will be monitoring to help us achieve our goals for the year. Data tracking is going to be very important this year so, Franco expressed that he is very happy with what they accomplished at the last meeting.
Our admin, Carolyn, will be away for a while and in her stead, Patricia Tait will be stepping in. Kindly welcome Patricia and help her become acquainted with our members and with Rotary in general.
Did you know? Our club has sponsored 15 other clubs over the years, 8 of which are still active. Being chartered in 1913 it is quite likely that this is our 5,550th, or thereabouts, lunch meeting.

Tamlyn Mafika was officially welcomed into the club as our newest member. Tamlyn has transferred from the RC of Yellowknife. Welcome to our Rotary family Tamlyn!
Phil Webber gave us a little bit of an update from the Ride for Hearing. Yet another successful event – the 39th! Congratulations to the organizing committee, the volunteers, and the riders. So far approximately $330,000 has been raised. Key fundraisers:
Barbara Welsh’s Chain Reaction Team, $31,400
Dr. Westerburg’s Gears for Ears Team (St. Paul’s), $19,815
Franz Gehriger’s Swissreal Team, $12,815
Everyone’s still counting and the numbers are continuing to go up.
Our own, Franz Gehriger, came in with an incredible time of 4hr 19 mins. By far the fastest time. Good going Franz.

Program - FIRESIDE CHAT WITH BUSINESS LEADERS
Joan Posivy hosted our business leader panel starting the session off with the reasons why she joined our club, choosing us over the many other clubs in Vancouver. Succinctly put, (1) the heritage our club has built over its 11 years in existence, and (2) the tremendous amount of business expertise to found amongst our membership. From there the panelists were introduced, Stu Bird, Sandra Lowe & Laura Donellan.
Laura Donnellan is the talent acquisition specialist and co-founder of the IRL Group - hospitality & construction firm.
Stuart Bird is retired past President & CEO of General Equipment Limited. He is prepared to share his experience; the perils and pleasures of running a family business.
Sandra Lowe is a mentoring mavin, active humanitarian and COO at Jenkins Marzban Logan, LLP.
The questions fielded were varied and interesting. Some of the discussion topics included how to balance business, personal and volunteer tasks; how to manage family businesses and succession plans within them; how to implement significant change in management ethos successfully, and dealing with hiring, firing, and retaining good staff.
A lot of very valuable takeaways were discussed. A few of them:
Personal relationships are the foundation for everything. Every business is based on relationships, inter-generational relationships. Community supports us all for so much in both the realms of professional and personal.
Be clear about your priorities: family, business, service. Stay loyal to those priorities, surrounding yourself with people who have the expertise to pick up the task & commitments you cannot. Whatever you have chosen as a priority, be sure to be present in the moment, wherever you are, whatever you are doing. Don’t miss opportunities because you are mentally elsewhere.
Rotary commitments can sometimes be overwhelming, how do you manage all the asks? Ask yourself, ‘I am a Rotarian, what does that mean to me?’ It all comes down to point 2 above and time management. Rotary priorities, such as attending meetings, should be in your calendar as a dedicated commitment. Adjust other tasks around it by delegating or working different hours, etc.
In closing some pointers:
Sandra: Find yourself great mentors. The higher you go, the lonelier it gets. Mentors are key.
Laura: Make time to attend events or something that is challenging and invigorating. It will keep you stimulated, continue learning, and excited.
Stu: Life is short. Be passionate about what you’re doing. Finally, always make time for YOU.
