Next week's meeting, Tuesday June 25, 2024, will be the final meeting of the Rotary year. The agenda will include:
Jason Boudreau, President, will provide a wrap up report for the 2023-24 year
Ann Mary Velayo, Assistant District Governor, will install the new 2024-25 Board
Franco Gallo, as incoming President, will let us know what his vision and goals are for the 2024-25 year

28th ANNUAL ROTARY POT OF GOLD CHARITY GOLF TOURNAMENT

The Rotary Club of Royal City, New Westminster is hosting their annual fundraising golf tournament. 120 golfers will tee off in a shotgun start - WILL YOU BE ONE OF THEM? single and foursome spaces booking fast. The course is in fabulous condition. Four par 3 holes offer hole-in-one prizes totalling $250,000 on the day. And it can be done!! One year, a lucky golfer aced the contest hole and took away a $15,000 diamond engagement ring. Some golfers came close last year, will that be you this year? . AND THIS YEAR ALL GOLFERS WILL HAVE 4 CHANCES TO WIN A HOLE-IN-ONE PRIZE OF UP TO $50,000!!!

Let's make this a fantastic Rotary out-trip with as many of our members as possible. There's not many opportunities to really have fun together for more than a few hours, getting to know one another better, and forging new relationships both within our club and external to it. If at all possible, please consider joining the group.
Note if our club has enough people attending, there is an option to coordinate and book group housing (15 or more rooms).

Update on meal fees as of July 1, 2024. Coming with our new Terminal City Club contract comes some increases in our meal fees as a result of increasing food costs. The increases will be as follows:
Pay-as-you-go, guest & 3-meal option: $57 per person
Corporate with 3 members/Corporate with 2 members/Family Member: $680 + GST

Christos Kalaitzis introduced himself to our club as a relatively new member. He told us his story as his professional life progressed into the hospitality industry to culminate in him forming his company, Liquid Intelligence Ltd. The specialty of his company is non-alcoholic cocktails (I must say, they are delicious), "aēlo" Expertly Handcrafted Cocktails. What brought him to his current space is a life-long journey starting in Greece at the knee of his parents and grandparents and his love for limoncello. He is incredibly busy building his business, with the hope that his product will be available in about 5,000 locations by the end of the year. You can find it in your local grocery story. Give it a try. You'll undoubtedly become a fan.
Michael Woolnough shared his experience at the 2024 RI Convention held in Singapore. As always (Michael's been to a few RI Conventions), the experience was great and well worth the trip. They had incredibly inspiring speakers to start the days. The House of Friendship, a standard at these conventions, featured over 150 different booths where clubs showcased the work they've been working on. A lot of participants show up in traditional cultural dress, everyone shows up with a smile on their face and a friendly demeanor. This is one of the joys of an RI Convention: meeting people from all over the world. Reacquainting with Rotarians met at previous conventions and creating new friendships that can be called upon anytime from anywhere in the spirit of Rotary fellowship.
With the next RI Convention being in Calgary it is relatively easy for most of us to attend. Michael, and others who have attended RI Conventions in the past, highly recommend it. See more info above.
John Bathurst introduced Miguel Rozo who is our club's outgoing Rotary Scholar. Miguel is not a stranger to our club. He was the President of the UBC Rotaract Club while he studied there.
Miguel has been in the workforce for about 9 years now. His journey has seen him pivot into the area of environmental policy. He has been working between here and Washington DC, educating and working to effect change. The travel he has done for his work has allowed him to see first hand the challenges small countries are facing, some of which are, quite literally, going underwater and will be non-existent in the future.
The program that he is being supported as a Rotary Scholar to pursue is a Master of Public Administration at Harvard University. It is a program whereby the program is tailored to the individual participant's goals. Miguel is working to devise sustainable solutions to environmental crises and as such his program of study at Harvard will be focused on that.
Recognizing that environmental challenges faced globally are very complex and nuanced. To devise sustainable solutions we need to thoroughly understand the problems faced at every level and also need to bring diverse voices to the problem if we wish to change the world for the better. How very Rotarian!
Best wishes to Miguel in his studies. He has promised to keep in touch and let us know how the work is going. We shall look forward to that.
