Kyle Petz, RBC Global Asset Regional Manager Global Economy and the Global Asset Management Story
Kyle has been with RBC for over 13 years in a variety of roles focused on working with RBC personal and business clients to successfully achieve their investment management and financial planning goals. In his current role at Canada’s largest investment management firm, RBC Global Asset Management, Kyle brings his passion for economics, capital markets and successful long-term investing to advisors and clients across British Columbia.
Kyle is a graduate of the University of Victoria with a Bachelor of Commerce (Honors) degree. He holds his Personal Financial Planning and Qualified Associate Financial Planning designations. Kyle lives in Victoria, BC with his wife Lindsey and daughters Audra and Grace.
RI President-elect announces 2021-22 presidential theme: "Serve to Change Lives"
Incoming Rotary International President Shekhar Mehta urged members to become more involved in service projects, saying that caring for and serving others is the best way to live because it changes not only other people’s lives, but also our own.
Mehta, a member of the Rotary Club of Calcutta-Mahanagar, West Bengal, India, revealed the 2021-22 presidential theme, Serve to Change Lives, to incoming district governors on 1 February during the Rotary International Assembly.
Mehta spoke about how participating in service projects through Rotary changed him as a person and made him empathize more with the needs of others. Soon after joining his club, he helped carry out projects that benefited rural communities in India.

Parisa, info about a walk fundraiser with RC Metrotown. Here is their message: It's cold out there. And on February 20, our team is going to do something about it. Together with thousands of Canadians across the country, we're walking and fundraising to support and serve people and families experiencing homelessness, hurt, and hunger in our community via Burnaby Community Services & Society to End Homelessness in Burnaby.
We are walking, safely distanced, on Saturday February 20th. Meeting at the Shadbolt at 10:30 am on the lake side of the Centre and then we will walk around the lake. Should be fun to get together!
Joan attended the District Mediators Beyond Borders International session last week. It was quite an informative session with a number of good tips on how to run successful ZOOM meetings. Others from our club who attended: Sean Chan, Sandra Lowe, Narv Gill, Soudeh Keypour, John Bathurst, and Carolyn.
Andrea Johnson, as the 5040 PR chair, reminded us all to not forget to register for the 2021 District Conference, coming up June 4 and 5. It’s a virtual live event with a fantastic line-up of speakers. There’s a focus on youth, peace (collaborating with Mediators Beyond Borders) and family. ROTARY PEACE FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM
Andrea Johnson, representing District 5040, and from RC Prince George Nechakospoke, spoke about the Rotary Peace Fellowship program. Applications are now being accepted. Unfortunately we had some tech difficulties so Andrea could not show the Powerpoint presentation, nonetheless, you can access it below. Comments are included.
Gloria Staudt, also from District 5040, added that in the past each district was permitted to submit only one candidate. Now as many as feel are eligible. Very competitive, last year the average is 7 years of experience. 2007-08 less than 300 applicants worldwide, today over 1500, over 900 endorsed. Only 130 spots available. Applicants should go through clubs as the first level of review. Can be from anywhere in the world.

YOUTH SERVICE COMMITTEE, YOUTH EXCHANGE PROGRAM REUNION
John Hayto provided an introduction to some of our past youth exchange participants. It was wonderful hearing from these accomplished individuals hailing from around the globe. Those able to attend were:

Everyone shared where they are at today. All are very accomplished in their chosen field of study or work. All expressed gratitude for the exchange experience, and shared some wonderful memories. No one is currently involved with Rotary, perhaps in the future.
Phil Webber, as others said as well, it was extremely interesting listening to all. It was obvious how important this experience can be. The hope is that some of these past participants will bring their life experience to a club near them, even if not a Rotarian themselves, when the time is right. Hearing about it will undoubtedly encourage clubs to support the program.
We want to keep this program alive in our club. Note for our own club members, if you know of anyone able to host this is a vital piece that we constantly have trouble with. Please consider, if you are not able, perhaps a friend or family member who can. Let us know so we can build a list of resources. The 2021-22 exchange program has now been officially cancelled. We are looking at 2022-23.
Stu Bird reiterated that it is important for the young people to realize how important they are in keeping the youth exchange program alive. Everyone is encouraged to reach out to local clubs to tell your stories, it would be beneficial in helping local clubs supporting students and the youth exchange program. Thank you so much for participating today.
