MEETING APRIL 21, 2020 (virtual)
Bala Naidoo, District 5040 Governor

Bala will talk about the current situation that Rotary, and the world, finds itself in from the perspective of the District and Rotary International.

As with so many organizations, including professional and educational, Rotary is learning to quickly adapt to these changing times. It is responding to global and local needs, helping thousands in their time of crisis. It is responding to member needs by changing the format of what traditionally were in-person events to on-line events.

We are seeing collaborations between groups such demonstrated by the joint statement issued by Kiwanis International, Lions Clubs International, Optimist International, and Rotary International. As stated in the related statement, "In these times of uncertainty, your local service clubs remain committed to meeting the challenge of finding innovative ways to take action together to help communities around the globe heal and thrive – and become more united than ever."

NEXT MEETING APRIL 28, 2020 (virtual)
TBA, Stay tuned

UPCOMING MEETINGS - INPUT WELCOME

Member input and feedback is always encouraged and welcome. We want to make our virtual club meetings vibrant and interesting for everyone. To do this successfully we need input from you.

As many of our Rotarians have requested, we will be meeting every week provided we have a meaningful program to present. To that end, you can help by letting Carolyn know by the prior Friday (or Sunday at the latest) if you have any announcements or presentations you'd like to have included.

If you have suggestions for speakers, the Speaker Committee will be happy to consider them. Email program@rotaryvancouver.org with details. Do not make any commitments to your proposed speaker contacts; the committee will handle that aspect.

If you have suggestions for socials, albeit virtual ones for now, contact our Social Director, Milton Kiang. He'll be happy to field those suggestions.

These interesting and challenging times present some great opportunities. Think outside the box and let's keep our Club a powerhouse of fabulous Rotarians!

To bring a smile... A stunning rendition of Hallelujah
Thanks to Verona Edelstein for sharing this beautiful rendition of Hallelujah.

Pupils of Roedean School in Johannesburg have released a virtual choir rendition of Hallelujah, explaining that they are “together in spirit and song though apart at uncertain times”.

Who says that we cannot stay connected and lead a wonderful life during these crazy, unstable times!

An inspiration that lives on - Terry Fox
Thanks to Tom Crean for sharing, as he says, his humble tribute to a brave man, a man Tom met only at his funeral.

Terry actually began his amazing journey across our country on Easter Sunday 40 years ago (April 12, 1980).

Terry Fox: “It took cancer to realize that being self-centered is not the way to live. The answer is to try and help others.”

His spirit certainly lives on as does the fight.
