Monday, September 30th marks the
National Day for Truth & Reconciliation.
This day holds significant meaning as we reflect on the history and ongoing impacts of residential schools on Indigenous peoples, and honour the survivors, their families, and their communities.
As an organization that values equity, diversity and reconciliation, we would like to encourage all of you to take time to reflect on the meaning of this day and engage in thoughtful learning, listening and action. Let us also remember that our commitment to learning and unlearning must extend beyond the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation, as ongoing reflection and action are essential for meaningful change.
Some suggested activities:
Wear your orange shirt and go deeper... pick up a copy of the book called “Beyond the Orange Shirt” by Phyllis Webstad (author, activist and creator of Orange Shirt Day) from your local library or bookstore.
Support an Indigenous Business across the province of BC – click herefor a handy resource, organized by type of product/service.
Listen to “Unreserved” — podcast available on the CBC website and Spotify - a fearless space for Indigenous voices. Together, we can learn and unlearn, laugh and become gentler in all our relations... our cousins, our aunties, our elders, our heroes.
If no written objection is filed with the Secretary within 7 days of Sept. 27, 2024, (by Oct. 4, 2024), Daniel Jardo, will upon payment of the dues and assessments determined by the Board, be declared elected as a member of the Rotary Club of Vancouver recognized by Rotary International.
