If You're Traveling for the Holidays
I'm told that I should expect a mixture of regulars, new and old visitors, and a fluctuating attendance at our meetings as many of us travel during this holiday season. Not knowing where you might go but knowing that you will seek out "make up" locations, I thought I would offer some suggestions.
If you're headed to Southern California, then you might visit the Crossroads Rotary Club. It meets every Wednesday for lunch across the street from the Inland Resource Center in San Bernardino. Should you venture across the Atlantic, the Pond as it's called, the Rotary Club of Northern Paris would also welcome you to lunch. It meets every Tuesday at the Brasserie Flo housed in Paris' northern train station not too far from the Stadium of Paris. Still on the continent, then enjoy a Tuesday dinner meeting of the Rotary Club of Athens, Greece near Aegli Zappiou.
Leaving Athens and traveling across the Aegean Sea, through the Dardanelles and on to the Bosphorus could find you meeting with the sixty-one year- old Rotary Club of Istanbul. It meets at the Istanbul Hilton on Tuesdays from 12:30 to 2:00. Unfortunately, south of Turkey, in Damascus, Syria, you would not find a Rotary Club to visit. There was one, but, after 50 years in existence, it recently lost its charter due to a decline in membership. You can, however, go across the border to Beirut. If you're there on a Tuesday, you can meet with the Rotary Club of Beirut in the Phoenicia Hilton. If you want to leave right away, and if you have 75 Israeli Shekels ($19.50 U.S.), you can have lunch with the members of the Rotary Club of Jerusalem the very next day on Wednesday. Finally, if you want to round out your Mediterranean adventure, you can get up early for breakfast at the Rotary Club of Cairo when it meets on Monday at the Cairo Marriott in Zamalek.
