Youth Service — New Generations
On the local front, the Rotary Club of Kapa`a has responded to many needs of the community. After all, this is where we live. Our special interest and emphasis is youth. Last year, our Youth Service committee:
- Actively supported the Interact Club at Kapaa High donating funds for their regular annual club expenses, annual conference travel expenses and community projects
- Sponsored and co-produced RYLA Camp with 38 Kauai high school students
- Through Aloha Angels, adopted 48 elementary classes at Kapaa Elementary and 14 classes at Kekaha Elementary
- Donated funds to the Kapaa Middle and Kapaa Elementary schools for family nights
- Donated funds to the Kapaa Middle School Robotics Club
- Donated funds to support the Kapaa Elementary Dolphin Club, an after-school club
- Established 5 After School Mentoring Clubs at Kapaa Elementary School
- Awarded $10,000 in club and district scholarships to outstanding Kapaa High School Seniors
- Created and sponsored Project Grad - by providing a safe liquor- and drug-free event with a full night of activities for the graduating Kapaa High School class of 2016
- Awarded dictionaries to all 3rd grade students at Kapaa El
- Gifted Junior Achievement $25,000 to expand the program at all age levels and almost 1,000 students in 2015-16 Rotary year. Some of our members also volunteered as JA mentors.
- Conducted a hands-on Interact rummage sale/bake sale fundraiser at the Boys and Girls Club in February
