Hideki Kimukai has been a core volunteer for Sustainable Coastlines Hawai'i since he joined in 2013.  He has coordinated and completed dozens of international collaborative beach cleanups on O’ahu.  He joined Sustainable Coastlines Hawai'i Education and Outreach team in 2018.  Not only has he successfully educated local audiences, he has also excelled in outreach and education to international students, including Japan, Australia, and European countries.  Hideki was born in Japan and lived in Japan until he began high school studies abroad in the US continent.

Hideki’s extensive expertise on Marine Debris earned him an assistant research position with Professor/Dr. Saido’s research team from Nihon University, where he translates and presents their research findings on chemical pollution derived from plastic waste. Research has been presented at American Chemical Society conferences and other science conferences around the world. Dr. Saido’s studies have been published in many scientific and non-scientific papers including NY times and United Nations Environment Programme Yearbook.

Sustainable Coastlines Hawai‘i started in 2010 with 8 friends sitting around a table in a small house in Kaimuki.
Inspired by  Sustainable Coastlines in New Zealand, they decided to take keeping our beaches clean into their own hands while making the work fun.
