Calvin K.Y. Say currently serves as a member of the Honolulu City Council. He represents District 5 which includes Kaimukī, Pālolo Valley, St. Louis Heights, Mānoa, Mōʻiliʻili, McCully and portions of Ala Moana, Kakaʻako, and Makiki. Since the start of his term, Calvin has chaired the Committee on Budget and is Vice Chair of Housing and the Economy.

Prior to his election to the City Council, Say was a member of the Hawaii State House of Representatives, representing the 20th District. He served as Speaker of the House for 13 years until 2013. First elected to the Hawaii House in 1976 from the Kaimukī/Pālolo/St. Louis Heights area, Speaker Emeritus Say was one of the youngest individuals to become a House member. Prior to serving on the City Council, he was one of the most senior legislators in the Hawaii State Legislature.

In addition to his public service, he also runs Kotake Shokai, Ltd, a family-owned small business. His decades of service in both the City and State level, while also running a small business, gives him a unique perspective and knowledge on policy and the affects government decisions have on our communities in both the short- and long-term. He believes educating himself, his colleagues, and the public on the intricacies of policy-making, and how we are all connected, is vital in creating a better Hawaii for future generations.

Fun fact: Speaker Emeritus Calvin K. Y. Say is the first Chinese-American to serve as a Chamber Speaker.
