An invitation from our Windward friends regarding the Centennial Project.
Aloha mai kakou,

First of all I'd like to extend my fondest Aloha and Mahalo for this collaboration of Rotary Clubs, all from the East Oahu Region with regards to our Centennial  Service Project on Saturday January 9, 2016 at Waikalua Loko I`a (fishpond).

I've attached a map for the location of Waikalua Loko I`a, which is found on the bay side of Bay View golf course in Kane`ohe. Our service project will mainly entail the removal of invasive seaweed and mangrove in the fishpond. Waikalua Loko I`a is an ancient Hawaiian fishpond that is about 370 years old and 11.5 acres in size (17 acres total including the land). Pacific American Foundation , a non-profit orgainzation, has been the  Kia`I loko (caretakers) since 1995 and we have had close to a 100,000 volunteers come through to provide service, so having the centennial service project at the pond is perfect! We are asking each club to provide us with volunteers for Friday Jan 8th to help with the preparation of our imu, we will need at least 1 per club. Secondly we will need volunteers to help with set-up of imu early Saturday Jan 9th at 5am, again we are asking for at least 1 per club. Lastly, we are asking each club to sign up to bring food for our luncheon after service. If you have members who would like to bring food on Saturday to place into the imu please identify who they are and what they plan on bringing...

With regards to the service project, we are asking that volunteers bring their own water in a recyclable container (no plastic bottles Please) and gloves. We will provide water coolers filled with ice water as well as provide cups. We will have a tent area, so our "Kupuna" can sit under and share their mana`o (thoughts) and mo`olelo (stories) about being a Rotarian...Tabis or shoes with laces are preferred and wear clothes that can get dirty/muddy, as we are getting into the fishpond. After we are done with the service portion we will ask members to rinse off in the ocean as to save on water usage and time rinsing off. We'll start to clean-up for lunch around 1145am. As mentioned earlier projects being done that day will mainly be focusing on the removal of invasive seaweed and mangrove from the pond. The use of chainsaws are welcomed.

Regarding lunch we are asking everyone to BYOB. you may want to bring your chairs, mats for after but this is more for added comfort, so its optional...

This invitation extends out to your ohana. Keiki as young as 4 yrs old are welcomed to be apart of this as well! there's something for everyone to do.

FOR ROCKS MEMBERS AND FRIENDS, PLEASE LET CALVIN OR DEBI KNOW IF YOU CAN ATTEND BY 12/21 AND WHAT YOU WILL BRING.
