Habilitat was founded in Hawaii in 1971 by Vinny Marino  and is the largest capacity long term residential substance abuse treatment and intensive vocational training program. Habilitat is located on a 1.5 acre facility on Kaneohe Bay formerly known as the Bigelow Estate. The organization is a private 501c3 nonprofit funded by social enterprise, without dependence on government funding or insurance and is considered the gold standard in addiction treatment according to several Hawaii Judges. Habilitat operates 13 different work force development programs that all lead to employment at a living wage.
