Here and There: Medical Travels of an Emergency Physician

Dr. Daniel Smith attended Cornell University graduating with a B.S. in 1973 and then Tufts University School of Medicine, receiving his M.D. in 1977.  He trained in Internal Medicine in Boston, and started his career in Emergency Medicine at Mount Auburn Hospital, Cambridge, Massachusetts.  He became board-certfied in IM in 1980 and EM in 1985, with highlight of his academic career at Baystate Medical Center where he served as assistant Program Director for the first several years of the program, starting in 1993 until his departure for Hawaii in 2000.  For several years, he served as chief of Emergency Department at Queens Medical Center before “semi-retirement," working part-time at Kahuku, Molokai and Castle.  Currently, he is working on an occasional basis in Alaska and volunteering at IHS.  Dan and his wife Jan have been married for 46 years, with four children, seven grandchildren, and two more coming in May.  He stays busy with travel, diving, fishing, and grandkids.  He has volunteered his medical services in many different developing countries in many differerent capacities, which he will share with us during his presentation.
