Dear Rotarians,

It's Saturday evening and I'm watching the Georgia Bulldogs beat up on the Mississippi State Bulldogs. It's been a good game for us Dawg fans, I hope your team has fared well too. It makes me think of our college football program a few days ago as Scott "Quake" McMahen came to speak to our club and answer our sports questions. I have enjoyed the Sports Talk guys as they have become a mainstay of our fall programs. And as a reminder, their show airs on FM 102.3 from 4-7pmweekdays.

This Wednesday we have the distinct honor of hosting our Past Rotary International President John Germ. As a member of the downtown Chattanooga club, PRIP Germ led our international organization of over 1.2 million members strong. I really can't imagine what that means! He spent an incredible year as President which ended in June with the International Conference in Atlanta, but still maintains a busy schedule of traveling and speaking engagements. Please come and support PRIP Germ with your attendance Wednesday and invite a guest to join you. What better program could a guest come to, to hear about Rotary and be encouraged that our club might be a good fit for them?

I will be out this week on vacation and President-Elect Chris Neighbors will be leading our programWednesday. Come early and give him your support as well. I look forward to being back with you October 4.

The Environment
“…Today, environmental degradation and climate change threaten us all. They are having a disproportionate impact on those who are most vulnerable, those to whom Rotary has the greatest responsibility. Yet environmental issues barely register on the Rotary agenda..."  Ian Riseley

Volunteer Activity Ironman
Rotarian Helen Cansler volunteered at one of the water stops along the half marathon route of the Ironman 70.3.  Water stop is a short description for water, Gatorade, Red Bull, coke, bananas, halos, protein gels, cold water sponges, and ice, just to name a few of the items a runner could run away with.  And by stop they mean, run by and grab at a cup that is sitting balanced on the volunteers hand, which you hold at arms length, so you don't impede the runners ability to snatch and grab.  The runner then throws a little of the liquid down their throat, then tosses the cup on the ground without ever missing a beat.  Volunteers pick up the cups, banana peels, orange peels, gel packs without getting run over  by the next runner.  Who knew that holding your arm straight out for 3 hours would make your shoulder sore the next day.
