Rotarian Helen Cansler volunteered at one of the water stops along the half marathon route of the Ironman 70.3.  Water stop is a short description for water, Gatorade, Red Bull, coke, bananas, halos, protein gels, cold water sponges, and ice, just to name a few of the items a runner could run away with.  And by stop they mean, run by and grab at a cup that is sitting balanced on the volunteers hand, which you hold at arms length, so you don't impede the runners ability to snatch and grab.  The runner then throws a little of the liquid down their throat, then tosses the cup on the ground without ever missing a beat.  Volunteers pick up the cups, banana peels, orange peels, gel packs without getting run over  by the next runner.  Who knew that holding your arm straight out for 3 hours would make your shoulder sore the next day.
