October is End Polio Now Month
On October 24, at 2:30 PM Pacific Standard Time, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation will host the 5th Annual World Polio Day celebration event at their downtown Seattle campus.  You can watch the celebration during a live stream event or watch a recording later.  Stay tuned for more details on how to connect to the event on the Rotary International website: www.rotary.org
This is an exciting time for Rotary and our partners in the historic eradication effort underway in the last three countries:  Pakistan, Afghanistan and Nigeria.  In August of this year Nigeria has been polio free for 12 months.  Worldwide only 11 wild polio virus reports have been recorded this year, all in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Be a part of history and join the celebration event next week.  Give to the PolioPlus Fund, watch your funds triple through the generosity of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.  And feel the pride of being part of something BIG.  REALLY BIG. –
President Cindi O’Neil
ELYSIA KIYIJA is the Program Director for Big Brothers Big Sisters.  She is married to Keneth Kiyija and has a 1 ½ year old daughter, Siena. She is proposed by Amanda Gow. Her passion lies around international service.  She spent two years in Uganda helping women develop small businesses for self-sufficiency.  Producing crafts and raising livestock are among the businesses she helped develop.  She has also helped youth in Uganda get enrolled in educational schools and programs.  She is excited about helping our Club with organizational activities, event planning and international service.  She has agreed to join the International Service Committee and serve on the Holiday Auction Committee.

JUDY STARR is the Development Director for Neighbor Impact.  She is new to Bend and eager to make connections and friends in our Club, while also becoming involved with providing support and service in our community.  She is proposed by Linda Johnson. She brings 25 years of experience in the non-profit realm and has extensive experience in fundraising and public relations.  She has agreed to join our Public Relations Committee.

Our past president Julie Miller is in the news!  She has been promoted to regional president of First Interstate Bank overseeing bank operations in much of the state of Oregon.  We are proud of our gal and you can see the story about her HERE.  At the Rotary Club of Bend we are very proud of her accomplishments and First Interstate should be very happy having her on their team as they acquire the Bank of the Cascades.

I’ve lived in Bend thirteen years now, and love each day waking up to the clean, fresh and dry air of the high desert.
I have been lucky I life in that I enjoy my profession as much today as I did back when I began working in the autumn of 1975 at Kidder Peabody Inc. in Portland, Oregon.
With more than thirty five years in the financial services industry, the past eleven with RBC Wealth Management here in Bend, I provide clients with investment solutions and am dedicated to helping them reach their financial goals.

Niblick & Greene’s restaurant, located in the clock tower building at Eagle Crest Resort, offers a fantastic Central Oregon’s dining experience. Enjoy a casual dinner in our main dining room or take advantage of warm summer evenings on our outdoor patio, which has the capacity to accommodate large groups and special occasions. With tempting menu items such as prime rib, fresh seafood, steaks, pasta, and more, there is something for everyone.

What is Rotary?
What is Rotary?  Rotary is a service organization dedicated to high ethical standards and to promoting service projects to enhance the lives of people in our community and around the world. The purpose of Rotary is to improve lives through educational and humanitarian programs.  We often work with people and organizations that help the less fortunate.  We have been a major mover in the world to end Polio as this has been a Rotary focus for several decades.
