Litter is unsightly. It destroys the natural beauty of Hawaii’s highways.

Litter is expensive. The State Department of  Transportation spend $2 million a year picking up litter

— and that doesn’t count what the counties and other state agencies spend !

Beautiful highways say “welcome” to visitors and show that we care about our community and our environment.

The Rotary Club of Pahoa Sunset has adopted a section of State Highway 130  between the 6 and the 8 mile marker

Our club participates wholeheartedly in Adopt a Highway

Adopt-A-Highway is a public service program for volunteers to pick up litter along Hawaii's State highways.

It's a way for environmentally conscious citizens to make a contribution to a cleaner State. In addition to a

cleaner roadside, participants help to prevent pollutants from entering our storm drains, streams, and the ocean.

Community groups, churches, businesses, or individuals help maintain sections of roadside within Hawaii's State

Highway System. The Adopt-A-Highway program provides a great opportunity to promote civic responsibility, community

pride, and camaraderie within organizations.
