The Write to Read Project BC is and equal partnership between participating indigenous communities, Rotarians, Government House and the volunteers of the Write to Read Team. The project delivers books, libraries, computers, tablets & high speed Internet connections to remote First Nation communities in BC.

It is an original initiative of former Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia, the Honourable Steven Point. The liaison between the Government House Foundation and participating Rotary Clubs is former District Governor of Rotary District 5040 in BC, Bob Blacker.

Robert C (Bob) Blacker M.S.M. is Leader WRITE TO READ PROJECT and D5040 Governor 2008-2009

Bob has been a Rotarian since 1997 and started off his Rotary career at the Royal City Rotary Club (New Westminster).  At that time Bob was a serving member of the New Westminster Police Department (1971 – 2000) and upon his retirement held the rank of Inspector.

During his service as a Police Officer Bob was named and appointed as an Honorary Aide-de-Camp to the Lt.Governor of British Columbia.  Bob has served under four Lt. Governor’s - Garde B GARDOM, Iona CAMPAGNOLO , Steven POINT & Lt.Governor Judith GUICHON. Bob’s term finished up in APRIL after 20 years of service as a HADC.

It was during the first year of service with Steven POINT that a plan was devised in relation to Rotary and Government House partnering to bring books and libraries to isolated communities throughout BC. This was initiated in September of 2007 and is still ongoing today.

Bob is the recipient of the QUEENS GOLDEN & DIAMOND JUBILEE MEDALS & VICE REGAL COMMENDATION for his work with Government House and First Nations Communities.

In 2017 Bob received word from the office of the Governor General that he had been awarded Canada’s MERTORIOUS SERVICE MEDAL for his work with WRITE TO READ and getting libraries into isolated First Nation Communities. He received his medal from GG David Johnson in June 2017.

Bob is a member of the Steveston Rotary Club and is married to Judy with 4 children and 8 grand children.
