"The Rotary Foundation" by PDG Del Paterson

November is The Rotary Foundation month. Since it was founded more than 100 years ago, the Foundation has spent more than $4 billion on life-changing, sustainable projects.

PDG Del Paterson (2002-2003) is currenly the District Rotary Foundation Chair.

Del retired in December 2001 after a 36-year career in Banking. Most of Del’s work experience was with Scotiabank, mainly in branch management within B.C., the Yukon and Ontario. Del is a Fellow of the Institute of Canadian Bankers.

Del is a member of the Rotary Club of New Westminster since November 1997.  He joined Rotary in Whitehorse, Yukon in 1977. He has held many positions, over his Rotary career. Among them are the following:

• President of the Whitehorse Club in 1980-81 and the Prince George Club 1990-91.
• District Treasurer for District 7080 in 1994-95.
• District 5040 Governor 2002-03.
• District 5040 Rotary Foundation Chair 2003-06 & 2019-21.
• District 5040 Membership Development and Retention Chair 2007-2010.
• District 5040 Membership Extension Chair 2011-15
• District 5040 Representative – 2007 Council on Legislation.
• President’s Representative to the District 7690 Conference in April 2008.
• Zone 22/24 Coordinator for the Water Resource Group 2006-2010.
• District 5040 Stewardship Sub-Committee Chair - Dist. Foundation Committee 2013-16
• Assistant Rotary Regional Foundation Coordinator Zone 24 (West) 2012-15
• Zone 24 Treasurer – 2013 – 2018
• District 5040 Finance Committee – 2016 - 21

In May 2005, Del was awarded The Rotary Foundation “Citation for Meritorious Service”.

Del and Roxanne are Major Donors, members of the Bequest Society of The Rotary Foundation and a charter member of the Paul Harris Society of District 5040.

Along with his involvement in Rotary, Del has been involved in many other organizations, boards and clubs in the communities he and Roxanne have lived in. Del is active in his Masonic Lodge and the Grand Lodge of B.C. & Yukon.

Del and Roxanne have two children; a daughter and grandson live in New Westminster, while their son, daughter-in-law and two grandchildren live in South Carolina. They are an important part of Del and Roxanne’s lives.   

"Inducting Elizabeth Roach & Zach Segal"

Elizabeth Roach Elizabeth is the Executor of The Salvation Army, in charge of the Rotary Hospice in Richmond.  She moved from England in 1995 and has lived and worked in Richmond since 1998. Volunteering remained a passion, she was a Big Sister in 2019 and helped out with Vancouver Parole for five years. She is currently a board member of a local museum in Vancouver

Zach Segal Zach currently works for Canada's Housing Agency, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, and previously in Public Services.  He was borned and raised in Richmond. He is community volunteer and advocate. During COVID, he wrote comforting letters to isolated seniors and delivered hot meals to seniors living at home.  As shown by a career of public service, he believes nilly in the guiding principles of the Rotary club, and supports the mission of serving those in need at home, and abroad.
