We will not rest until polio is gone!

Rotary International has been actively engaged in the work to globally eradicate polio since 1979, starting with a multi-year project to immunize 6 million children in the Philippines. Read The History of Rotary & Polio by clicking here.

World Polio Day is an annual opportunity for Rotary members to rally the world around the fight to eradicate the disease forever.

2019: World Polio Day at Spirit Square

Short of the windstorm that came a couple of days later, the weather really couldn't have been much more wet and miserable, and yet several of our members put on their sandwich posters (see the pictures...) to stroll up and down Reid Street and St Laurent Avenue to promote awareness.

Granville's Coffee donated a big ol' carafe of coffee (thanks Ted) which we served by donation (we hoped for a loonie or twonie yet people were putting in $5's and $10's), while Craig's Table served up beef burgers, chicken burgers, and super'dogs for $7 each - sold out of beef and donated $135 back to Polio Plus from their sale proceeds.

We were also blessed with a further $341.25 in donations. With a single vaccination costing about $1, that's nearly 500 children in far off lands who will have the opportunity of a life without the threat of polio.
