One of the six areas of focus for Rotary is Water & Sanitation, to ensure that people have sustainable access to clean water and sanitation.

With this in mind, we hosted our first annual “Walk for Water” on 21st February 2020 to raise money and awareness for two organizations who share that focus. Locally, Baker Creek Enhancement Society promotes awareness, stewardship, and restoration of our local environment, in particular our lakes, rivers, and streams. Internationally, The Roll-A-Hippo Foundation facilitates easier access to potable water by way of the Hippo Water Roller. The proceeds of “Walk for Water” will be split between these two important organizations.

While the basic premise as to walk laps of the soccer field, we planned some fun and games for the entertainment and education of the participants, with lots of prizes to ensure everyone who participated took home a memento for helping Rotary address the important issues of water and sanitation.

Ultimately, 68 walkers helped us raise nearly $3,000, meaning $1,500 to each organization. Special mention to Quesnel Special Olympics who entered 22 participants and raised $1,465 of our total - outstanding!
