The head of the United Nations food agency warned that, as the world grapples with the COVID-19 pandemic, many countries in Africa are also "on the brink of a hunger pandemic" that could lead to multiple famines if immediate action isn't taken.

In 2015, we learned about Hippo Rollers. In 2020, we learned about the evolution of that project, from improving the ability to transport potable water to helping provide a sustainable food source by way of a "Survival Garden Kit":
  • Hippo water roller
  • A shovel, rake and hoe
  • Watering can
  • Seeds and seedlings
  • Compost, fertilizer
  • How to Grow a Garden Guide
  • Soap and sanitizer
  • Face masks
The COVID-19 pandemic had pretty much shut down all out fundraising events and activities but we were still meeting every week, albeit via Zoom, so we were still collecting "Happy Bucks" (the fee for making personal announcements). It took no time at all for us to set and reach a goal to sponsor one garden.

We plan to do more once we are in a position to do so. If you would like to help, click here for the Survival Gardens webpage or here to donate
