Protecting the Environment
Earth Day is every 22nd April and we try to find somewhere in Quesnel to clean-up, both as part of Rotary's Area of Focus, "Protecting the Environment", and as a good community thing to do.

18th April 2026 saw us return to Dragon Hill, this time accompanied by members of Rotary Club of Williams Lake and Correlieu Interact, and both participants and volunteers from Quesnel Ambassador Leadership Program.

21st April 2024 (easier doing clean-up on a Sunday than a Monday), we tackled the stretch of Highway 97 ditching from Balsam Avenue to Cedar Avenue.
Find of the day was a tire by Connor Milliken-Heape but we also retrieved a 4’ x 8’ panel of plywood, a sheet of insulation cladding, and the remains of a choroplast sign board, as well as the usual collection of candy wrappers, plastic wrap etc (hardly any beverage containers or other fast food garbage, though). BONUS: two drink cans…20c wealthier!
Thanks to Emcon Services inc for the garbage bags, visi-vests, and garbage pick-up; also to CF Diesel & Tire for lending us their parking lot. And of course our crack team of Rotarians, led by herder-of-cats Linda Turner: Kathy & Jim Somerville, Simon Turner, Tim Hall, Jasmin Sczesny, Carol Mankowske, Petrie Neave, Tania Milliken, Chris Heape, Connor Milliken-Heape, and our Brazil-bound Exchange Student Sophie Dennis.

22nd April 2023, our clean-up site: the stretch of ditch running along the walking and bike bath just below the Highway turn-off onto Dragon Hill Road.
Thanks to Emcon for the vizivests and garbage bags, and for agreeing to collect what we retrieved.
Among the haul... - two broken signposts & concrete base; - one fender; - one wheel; - one plastic pallet; - one log truck mud flap; - 4 returnables (we thought there'd be more); - one $10 bill.
Totally worth it!
