Rotary Membership

Rotary is 1.4 million passionate individuals in 46,000+ clubs worldwide. We are both an international organization and a local community leader. Together we lead change in our own backyards and across the world.

Rotary clubs are non-political, nonreligious, and open to all cultures, races, and creeds.

Lots of information below but feel free to ask questions by way of email to us at RotaryClubOfQuesnel@gmail.com or through any of the Club Executives & Directors listed on our Home page

How our membership works

Membership in a Rotary or Rotaract club is by invitation only. We want to make sure you join a community group that best fits your passion and perspective, and makes it easy to get involved and on your way to membership immediately.

Impact starts with our members - people like you who see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change - across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves.

At club meetings in communities across the globe, our people of action come together to strengthen their connections to friends and neighbors and their commitment to improving lives.

Who can join?

We’re looking for people who want to give back to their communities. Rotary clubs also welcome Rotaractors, Rotary Peace Fellows, and other members of the family of Rotary who qualify for membership.

Qualifications

  • Be an adult who demonstrates good character, integrity, and leadership
  • Have a good reputation in your business, profession, or community
  • Be willing to serve others in your community or around the world

How can I become a member?

Please note that membership in a Rotary club is by invitation. If you’re interested in joining the Rotary Club of Quesnel, click here to submit a Membership Inquiry email, and we will be in touch with you.

The names of membership candidates are submitted to our Membership Committee for recommendation and Board of Directors for approval following which an invitation to join will be extended.

What are the benefits?

Becoming a Rotary member connects you with a diverse group of professionals who share your drive to give back. Through regular meetings and events, you will:

  • Learn of and discuss your community’s needs and develop creative ways to meet them
  • Connect with other leaders who are changing the world
  • Expand your leadership and professional skills
  • Catch up with good friends and meet new ones

Other benefits of membership include:

The Rotary International Convention is our biggest event of the year. Rotary members from more than 130 countries meet at the convention each year to celebrate our successes and make plans for the future.

Rotary Fellowships give members the chance to join a group of people who share similar interests, hobbies, or vocations. Some groups use their fellowship to make a positive difference.

Rotarian Action Groups unite Rotary members, family members, program participants and alumni who share their expertise in particular fields by collaborating with clubs and districts on projects.

What’s expected of me?

As a club member, you will be asked to:

  • Pay club dues
  • Undergo a criminal records check
  • On a best-efforts basis, attend and participate in meetings and events
  • Use your personal and professional skills and talents to make a difference

How much are dues to Rotary?

Rotary Club of Quesnel currently has Membership Dues of $300 per member per Rotary year, 1st July to 30th June.  From that the club pays the dues for both Rotary International and Rotary District 5040 on the member's behalf.  The Club also pays for an Insurance policy that covers club service activities.  The remainder is used for club administration, activities and member training.

Membership Dues are reviewed annually in May and payable by 30th June. A person joining our club during the course of the Rotary year will make a prorated Dues payment together with an Induction Fee of $25 to cover the cost of an official name badge and New Member materials.

About the criminal records check

Since most of our service activities and projects revolve around youth, seniors, and other vulnerable members of our community, our club has adopted a policy of all members maintaining a current CRC on file with our District Compliance Officer. At present, that means undergoing a CRC upon registration as a member and every 4 years thereafter.

All details remain completely confidential but, simply put, we believe in holding ourselves to the higher standards people associate with being a Rotarian.

A club member helps with the arrangements.

What are the attendance requirements?

For a long time, 50 percent attendance at club meetings was required to remain an active Rotarian.  However, to accommodate busy schedules, there are many opportunities to make up those missed meetings and members are encouraged to take part in the numerous club community service events, committee meetings and social functions that happen throughout the year. There is also training opportunities and you always have the ability to attend meetings at other clubs in addition to your home club.  There is even the option to "attend" an online meeting with various e-clubs.

The emphasis these days is on engagement rather than strict policies of attendance.
