How we invested the proceeds
Planning and then hosting a fundraising event is always an experience but, often, the hardest decision is how to best use the money we raise - where might the need be greatest, what best suits the spirit of the event, how can we deliver the most impact?
After collecting all kinds of ideas, the one that stood out was a project coordinated by Rotary Club of Uzhorod, south-west Ukraine: Carpathians camps for children, specifically those from what is referred to as the grey zone or recently deoccupied territories, ages 7 to 15.
For 2023, the 14-day camps have a capacity to host 50 children with the ability to expand to accommodate 20 more. With participant sponsorship running at about $600, we were able to send $3,000 ($2,500 from the event with an additional $500 from personal donations by club members).
We hope to have some pictures to share but, understandably, security issues might prevent that from happening.
