Our club has a long history of memorable fundraising social events.
For over 50 years, we ran our Radio-TV Auction - the first one, in 1958, enabled us to contribute $1,500 to the construction of a new arena. Along the way, the Auction allowed us to make significant contributions to the Indoor Sports Facility run by Quesnel Youth Soccer Association, had specialized lifting equipment installed at the Rec Centre, renovated Quesnel's cenotaph, a donation in excess of $100,000 to the Hospice facility annexed to Dunrovin Retirement Home...and many more.
Since 2000, a highlight of the Quesnel social calendar is "Diamond Calcutta" (soon to be known as Ladies' Night), a spectacular event created by our sister club in Quesnel, Sunrise 2000, the responsibility for which we were proud to assume when the members of Sunrise decided to join forces with our club at the end of 2013.
Currently, these are our ongoing activities - all subject to change, of course, so best to check our Calendar:
- January: Super Bingo
- February: Coldest Night of the Year Walk (for Amata Transition House); Super Bingo
- March/April: Quesnel Craft Beer Festival
- April: Earth Day Clean-Up
- May: MS Walk
- June: Garage Sale for Polio Plus
- August: Seniors Trip to Barkerville
- September: Special Olympics Welcome Back Evening; Terry Fox Run
- October: Bowl For Kids' Sake (for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Quesnel); Super Bingo; Halloween Parade of Costumes
- November: Spa Rivier Shopping Event
- December: Super Bingo
We also prepare Meals for Seniors under the guidance of North Cariboo Seniors' Council for which dates vary.
For us, Rotary isn't about making a donation, it's about making a difference.
