Maureen Macarenko receives a progress report from Levuka, Fiji

Hi Maureen, I have ordered the pencil sharpeners from New Zealand. When I explained the circumstances, they gave us a discount below their normal wholesale price. An acquaintance of mine has paid for them and is coming to Levuka in mid June. He will bring them with him and this will save the freight. I am hoping he is able to import without having to pay the duty and GST, although if he does, there will almost be sufficient funds given the powerful Canadian dollar. If we can get it in duty free we will have about $250 FJD (165 CAD) left. I will buy school books for the balance for one of the smaller village schools.

I have contacted the Suva North Rotary club and have suggested that, if any of their members comes to Levuka for business, they can participate and we can make the presentation on their schedule. Perhaps they will be able to arrange photos for the Fiji Times, our national daily newspaper. They appreciate the gesture and I will be in touch with them again next week.

So, Maureen, it looks like things are coming together and I am looking forward to sending you photos and getting some real lasting benefit from your generous donation.
